Default Power steering trouble

Thanks to all the members who responded to my racing seat post. On to the next one...

I was at the track over the weekend and my power steering would go out after hard braking into a turn. Normal steering would resume after straightening the car. Thinking I was low on fluid, I added till the level was just above the "full, hot " line. This helped a little, but was a persistent problem all day. No problems when driven sanely. Any ideas? Does the power steering system need to be bled? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Same thing has happened to me the last couple of times I went to the track. I was told to flush the fluid and put redline instead. I was also told to check for a collapsed line. Maybe someone who has had this problem AND fixed it will reply.

Similar thing happened to me after leaving the track at the end of a 30 minute session on a hot day. The reason my steering got heavy, was that the engine started to die (I was just idleing along in the paddock). Probably a marginal vapor lock.
You situation may or may not be related.
If you don't have the steering cooler (comes standard with Z51) you might also be boiling the fluid or simply overheating the pump. Camaros were eating steering pumps like jelly beans until GM put a good cooler on the SS in '99.
