I have tried searching the forums (and google) for an answer and haven't been able to find any yet. I am having an issue with my '02 Bose factory sound system. The "auto tone" feature will turn itself off automatically. The problem is totally random and initially when it starts I will manually turn it back to the desired auto tone setting only for it to turn itself right back off again. I don't have the stereo up extremely loud and I haven't removed, replaced, or modified it in any way. I am wondering if this isn't yet another "common problem" or "gremlin" that other owners have experienced. Maybe some of the manual tone setting ***** are loose internally and causing the auto-tone to be over-ridden?? If anyone has an idea I would greatly appreciate. I do intend on replacing the headunit with a touch screen / NAV pioneer unit, however, that won't be in the immediate future. Thanks.
If you have the auto tone on and you turn the base or treble **** it will deactivate the auto tone feature. Thats what I remember when I had the Bose system.
I know if I change any of the audio setting the auto-tone feature will turn off, however, I am not adjusting ANY settings. It is turning off on it's own. Is this a known, fixable problem? Or am I looking at needing a new stereo unit?
I am not 100% sure but. it could be your battery. My understanding is if your battery is staring to run low, one of the first signs are the various presets (seat position, A/C control, audio settings) start to reset themselves.
Thanks for all of your advice, I have found the issue with the stereo. LTCHAPPA got me to thinking about those bass & trebble *****. I never use them, I have always just used the auto tones and left those ***** in their neutral position. I assume that over the course of time due to vibration and such that those ***** have become loose and under vibration contact can be made while they are still in the neutral position. I simply adjusted both of the ***** to a new position and pressed them back in to lock them. I re-applied the auto tone and it has been fine ever since. As long as you dont re-adjust the bass or trebble ***** after you re-apply the auto tone it wont turn off, essentially you are creating a new neutral position for the *****. Granted in time this will probably fail too, however, I plan to install a specific headunit in the future and didn't want to spend the money to replace the stereo with a stock one and then pay again for a new unit. Thanks again, hope this is helpful to anyone who comes across this issue too.
