Anybody still doing the copper washer trick to work as a spacer on the stock detent bolt? I've done some searches on this, but most of the threads are pretty old...does this really help to reduce the notchy feel of the shifter, or is it all in changing the trans fluid to Amsoil, Red Line, RP, etc.?
By shimming the detent you are bypassing/lessening the mechanical hold on the shift forks/gear sets. It makes the trans feel as if it is worn out and can actually allow a greater load on the shift forks by allowing a bit more slop.
With all that being said, some people absolutely love it. I personally did not, it made the trans feel sloppy and worn out.

Good to know. If that's the case, it's not for me either.

I tried it and came to the same conclusion
I ended up putting mine back to the stock detent. I also like the 2008 ZO6 shifter which made the biggest improvement in overall performance.

Ordered mine about a week ago...looking forward to getting rid of the stock C5Z shifter. I think that upgrade in a addition to a fluid change will make a big difference in shift feel.
I just did the washer mod. I used just one and it is better (not perfect) and does not feel loose. I think with two washers it would. I think it is worth the couple of bucks and less than ten minutes to install.
