Yes, they are really fast, but they are still ugly. No way would i buy one. I wouldnt turn it down for free, but all it really looks like is a 240 sx. I have seen a video of one running 9's in the 1/4

I think Japanese spec cars are horsepower limited to 276 ponies... so unless it is a lot lighter than a C5, I suspect we'd spank 'em stock vs. stock.

That said, I believe they are also turbos, so you get into the "turbo boost" vs. "bolt-ons" war that is so common in the Supra vs. C5 or 3000GT vs. C5 wars on here. :troll

The Skyline does absolutely nothing for me. And to imagine spending $75,000+ for one is insane in my opinion. I don't care is they have 800 horsepower, they don't look good.

 

Actually, I did see something on Speedvision about them........I was really impressed by their on-board diagnostics, various gauges, and such. The performance was great, the handling was God-like, but I can't seem to remember any specs on them..........:confused:
After seeing that, looks aren't everything! It might be a little ugly, but they look tough as hell.......especially from the front! :reddevil :cheers:

 

Turbo vs Non-turbo? Hmmm, sounds like apples to oranges. Now If I slapped even a 5 lb boost Turbo on the C5, then we're talking. Besides, that is one ugly POS.

 

I guess the performance isn't all that great.......BUT, I have seen a few with the boost turned up that could move the earth........800HP/AWD :eek:

Not my cup of tea, but they are fast. Japanese Manuf. have a Gentleman's agreement not to list horsepower over 276, even though they often go way over that.

 

Ok, I'll say it, I like the Skyline. It's not a bad looking car, of course it ain't a Vette, but it has a lot of power and all wheel drive. If they would import them here they could sell for around $30k.

 

The problem is that in the end, after spending $75,000 + you still have a Nissan! It is fuggly as they get, and not worth anywhere near the asking price IMHO. :smash:

 

I have heard you can get 1000+ hp out of these suckers. All I know is if I had to shift a thousand horsepower with my left hand and steer with my right I think I'd be dead real quick.

 

Skylines are wickedly fast. Think of them in the same line as a Supra. You can mod them and turbo them to high heaven.

The only reason they haven't come to the US is that they are RH drive. To convert them to LH drive was not feasible because of the layout.

Also, the cars are AWD. So, they make BIG HP and they can put it to the ground. Look at some of the buildups on these cars. They can hold their own with just about anything out there.

They don't get alot of press over here since you can't hardly get one. Well except for lately, it has been getting a little easier.

 

just wanted to add a comment about the 276hp. The skyline is limitied to 276hp based on the Japan HP agreement. But the first mod you would do if you were to own one is to replace the chip that limits it to 276hp. After the chip is replaced the car dyno's @ 376hp. I think its pretty sweet that a single mod will raise you 100hp. I wish vette mods worked that well, (skyline parts cost alot less too)

IMHO The skyline is the ultimate japan car. I am sure alot of you have seen the video of one doing over 300k. I have a nice little video of the 10-9 second Skyline club, its pretty sweet to see a car twist when the driver shifts to 2nd and 3rd.
One more thing, the Big boy skyline owners, have a computer that controls the amount of power that goes to the front / rear wheels, so you can take a 1000hp skyline, launch it at around 7000rpm, and as you make your way down the track, flip a switch and send all your power to the rear wheels. That is awesome, and would be killer on a vette. You get the best of all worlds when you can transfer power like that, you can race on a straight line from a launch, or from a roll, or on a road corse.

Give a vette AWD with the ablity to do that, and you wont here words like viper and supra in the same sentence with a vette.

I think on my top 5 car list, skyline r34 gtr would be number 2. (next to a z06 with a LPE Stage 3 turbo and a little 427)
