Default Question about C6 **** with C5 boot

I searched and couldnt find the answer, so heres my question. I put a C6Z shifter and **** in my c5 a couple weeks ago and its really bugging me that I cant get the boot around the bottom area on the ****, that I believe is made for it. I tryed stretching the top of the boot and it started to pull the threaded stitching out. I have seen a couple cars that have the boot nicely tucked into the **** and it looks sick. Let me know guys...

THANKS

I've read that you have to cut a few stitches at the top and then roll the boot in side itself to increase the diameter of the opening in order to slide it over the ****. Once you do this, you can use safety wire or a zip tie to secure the boot to the ****.

The factory C5 boot does not work very well with the c6 ****. Get yourself a new boot from Vette Essentials that is made specifically for this conversion. It is shorter and fits right around the C6 ****.

That works as well...but there's no harm in trying the free modification before buying a new boot.

I had good luck opening the top of the boot up a little...just a couple stitches. Then used a zip tie to hold the boot on the bottom of the ****, and now it looks like it grew there.

You need to do this w/the **** off the shifter and pull the boot over the **** (w/the **** upside down) then I used wire and tied the boot to the bottom of the ****. Now insert the **** put in the lock screw and pull down the boot and secure to console. clear as mud right.

Photos would be better. I used my C5 boot in the same way as you did and it looks good. It compares to a new C6 except the newer boots are much thinner material.

Default a stitch or two needed........

A stitch or two is all that is need to modify the C5 to work with the C6 shifter swap. Here are the comparrisons :[IMG][/IMG]

Note that the neck is larger in diameter .I took out the stitches and I used a larger chrome harness ring at the neck.

Worked for me and it looks factory. Turn the boot inside out and attach the zip tie or wire on the inside.
