Default More Aluminum Radiators?

It seems another seller of aluminum radiators pops up every week and usually with very attractive pricing and very few details. I use the term "sellers" because very few of these are manufacturers but rather re-sellers of a product made by others. You might wonder, where do all these radiators come from?

Well before you can make an aluminum radiator, you have to get aluminum cores. There are only (4) four companies in the USA that actaully make aluminum racing cores and DeWitts is one of them. There is over 300 companies brazing aluminum products in China and most of their output is being shipped to the United States. Many small welding shops will buy these imported cores for the price and not the quality. Then they weld end tanks on them, configure them into radiators and many times claim they are "Made in USA". The radiator might be assembled in the USA but the core, the most important part of the radiator, is actually made overseas. Some companies are claiming the product is made in there own factory, but when you check the factory address it is actually a home or office suite. Some publish false statements that sound real good but are total fabrications.

If you are thinking about a high performance radiator, investigate the product first. Here are a few good questions to ask:

Who makes the core & where?
Who welds them together?
Contact information, address, website?
Are the welds machine mig or hand tig?
Are the end tanks press formed or fabricated from sheet?
How many fins per inch?
How many rows of tubes and what size?
What type of coolers are offered?
How many plates in the coolers?
Do I need adpaters?
What is the warranty and who is covering the product?
How long have they been making these?
Do I have to modify anything to make this fit?
Do you use epoxy to seal the header?

If you start to ask these questions I think you will find out all you need to know about the company and the product. We have been making Corvette Radiators for 15 years and nobody does it better. We have a real location, with a real website, phone number, and factory.

Tom - all I can say is your radiator flat out works! I've done over 400 track miles on it thus far and the highest temps I've see are under 230 (granted it hasn't been too hot yet). Well worth the coin for the peace of mind, customer service, high quality and outstanding performance.

I bought one of your units with the driver's side EOC for my car, great piece! It dropped my oil and coolant operating temperatures significantly.

The wall thickness of the tubes used is also important to consider. There are some very thin wall tubes out there. Think Valeo. A mexican assembler making primarily Dodge radiators.

Can't say enough good things about Tom, his company and product. I have his radiator and its one thing I don't have to worry about any more. Now just have to find time to get his kit for attaching the EOC.

While the expert is in the house....

Can you run engine oil through a internal trans cooler DeWitt radiator?

Reason I ask is I have an Auto radiator now in my FRC. It is all but brand new, and I just capped off the two ports on the cooler as it sits. So far its been great on the track, so I basically just need to know if the internal trans cooler can handle oil pressures as high as the LS1 pump produces (I am not familiar with the pressue the trans pump produces...).

Thanks in advance, LOVE your product. Seriously the LAST thing I worry about at the track is my coolant temp. These bad boys work and fit like factory. WELL worth the added bucks.

Got the rad w/ left side oil cooler in and laid down. Runs at a much better temp now.

Thanks,

Kevin

Yeah, you can do it. The internals are a little different and the port are for the tranny. Summit sells adapters to AN fittings, but as I alway do, I recommend using a 5-7 psi bypass so you don't try to shove the whole system through the cooler.

Default C5 Radiator w/ EOC

Tom, I posted this up in one of your competitors threads as I'm considering one of your units. I'll be making a decision next wee.

I would have sent you a PM, but didn't see that option for you, so here goes.

Can you give me some details about your combo.

1. EOC is literally inside the radiator space? If so, seems this would reduce water coolant capability, true? Why would it matter weather the EOC goes driver or passenger side?

2. I've got a Vararam Cold Air Intake which press down on the fan shroud quite a bit. Will your bigger radiator be a problem with the Vararam? Does the extra width go shroud side, or engine side?

3. I saw you have a 898 line/adapter kit. Would that be everything I need to hook the EOC up without having to drill any holes in my block for the oil cooler. Your adapter doesn't look like it has all the plumbing the Lingenfelter adapter does. Are those hoses premade so no cutting whatsoever is needed?

Thanks, Ken . . .
