How is it pinned? There are two types, one goes in endwise and leaves a half circle in the crank and the hub and the other (ATI kit) goes into the side of the crank and requires a keyway be milled into the hub.

Even if pinned from the side of the crank, the pin should not be an obstruction for swapping the oil pump....as the pump fits over a splined bushing that's keyed to the crank. (oil pump bushing pictured below).

The pin would need to be removed though, if swapping the lower timing chain sprocket.

As for the dowel rods, 5/16" dia is the size.

I think the issue would be re-installation of the pulley with the end drilled pin due to alignment.

Will depend on how it was done originally and how it comes apart.

True, but he was aslking how to remove the pin, which would be mighty self-explanatory if it was pinned from the end....remove balancer, watch pin fall out.

My point was...if it's pinned to the side, the pin need not be removed to swap the oil pump.

OP never came back to this thread though, so who knows...

So if using the ATI pin kit like I did wouldn't everything come back off leaving pin in place? Balancer - no problem...I know that. Oil pump should be fine. So the crank sprocket is the problem? They are keyed but not enough room since the pins will not line up?

If the pin needs to come off is it just cut off flush....not sure it will come back out on its own!

Not sure if or how the pin size conforms to the size of the crank sprocket/pump bushing keyway, but maybe...if you have enough room to get bushing/sprocket off the crank key first, then spin and align to pin, then remove from crank...it might be possible,

Let's hope I don't have to find out for sure anytime soon!

With the ATI, if your pin was a tight fit, you can just tap it in and it will fall into the center hole of the crank. Mine was loose enough that I went with a 0.001" oversize pin. I actually changed the pin when I had mine apart recently.
