Lets get this water thing done with. When you drive your C5 on a very wet/damp day; what ever filter that you use (from stock to aftermarket) the filter gets wet. Not soaked but wet.

The air is saturated with moisture and moisture is going to get on the filter. The filter is treated with chemicals that allow the dirt particles to stick to the filter Medea. If its a dry filter the fibers are small enough that the dirt particles don't pass through and get trapped. Water vapor can pass through and the engine just consumes it and it gets turned to steam in the combustion process. Once the air is dry again, the filter gets dry and is back to normal.

When i was driving my VARARAMed C5 Z in a SEVERE RAIN STORM in Virginia at 50-55 mph, water droplets had to be getting sucked into the intake. Every once in a while, I would get a MAF DTC. Most likely due to some watter droplets.

I would clear the DTC and they would go away. Did it hurt anything? NO! Did it effect performance? NO!

Like I stated previously, if you drive your COLD AIR INDUCTED C5 or C6 into deep enough water, you risk the possibility of ingesting water into the intake. Maybe LOTs of water.

I drove my C6 (stock air filter) slowly through 4" of standing water when it was brand new. We were returning home from Mr Mojos Crab Run in Delaware and had another SEVERE rainstorm while going through NYC!! The 95 thruway in the BRONX had standing water EVERYWHERE!! It was still raining HARD and getting deeper by the minute. We followed other cars through.
Do you think that the STOCK filter got wet? HELL YES!! It was soaked. So soaked that it effected driveability until it dried out some. I had to replace it once i got home.

So, thats some facts about stock and aftermarket cold air filters.

Oh.....If I had a VARARAM on my C6 then or If I was driving my ZO6 and had to drive thru the same standing water,,,,,,,,I would have N E V E R attempted to cross that flooded under pass! PERIOD!

Other people that were driving Corvettes and passed through that same area some time after we passed through, had to wait till the water cleared and pulled over or got a hotel room for the evening! Some of the people reading this may have attended that same event and will chime in.

I have the C6 VARARAM in my 06 now so,,,,,NO flooded roads any more for that car either!

FYI, every car on the road will hydrolock if driven into deep enough water unless it's lucky enough to have something else, like the electronics, give out first and kill the engine.

I know someone who hydrolocked his GM pickup trying to drive out to the sand bar at Sauble Beach on Lake Huron. He tried to get it fixed under the factory warranty too...

One day I got stuck in traffic in Newark NJ and rerouted through an industrial neighborhood during a downpour. I had the VR-B2 on and saw a flooded road up ahead that I couldnt avoid. The water level was anywhere from 6" to 1' in most areas and I just just waiting for my engine to hydrolock as I was going through it. Luckily somehow the VR didnt suck up the water, thank god.
