Default Trunk release

Hi,

I lost battery power and I was looking for the trunk release in a 2004 Z06. I looked in the middle compartment but could not find it there. Can someone help and tell me where to look for the cable release? My battery is in the trunk

Thanks for your help.

Check your owner's manual.

Stop thinking coupe. He's got a Z06.

Look in the center compartment (I'm talking about the trunk), towards the rear, under the trunk latch. You'll have to crawl back there from inside. Remove the center storage compartment lid. There's a single thin wire cable sticking up/out in that area. HTH

Thanks. This is why this forum is great. Always someone to help you when you need. I looked in the center compartment before and could not find it. Is it directly under the latch in the back? Do I have to remove the carpets?

Yes, the release cable is under the trunk latch mechanism and depending on how it was routed by the last person to touch it, you may find routed slightly to the left or right. Normally you should not have to remove any carpeting. Keep looking. It's a very thin stranded cable and it's not particularly long either, at least mine's not. Don't know about yours, but mine only has a small ball/cube, etc crimped onto the end to help with pulling it. In other words, there's no tag or "placard". Not sure when they did it, but at some point the Fed started requiring a glow-in-the-dark tag that says "Trunk Release" --"Pull Me!" (well, maybe not that last part ), so I can't speak to your's on that part.

If nobody messed with it, you'll find a T-shaped handle hanging directly below the latch. However, couldn't you also hook up a charger to the + connections under the hood long enough to pop the trunk with the switch?
