No probelm on the Hi-jack....I love this forum.

Just an update on my situation. After work today, I pulled the knee panel off to see if there was a K harness and there was NOT. I order a CLB and hope it gets here soon. I was hoping the k harness was acutally there but since it is not I assume the BCM is either getting a bad signal from the lock (dealership said to replace) or there is some wrong with the BCM. Since I can hear it lock and unlock every time I turn the key on and off I hope it is just a signal that can be fixed with the CLB.

As a test, I turned the key to ACC and then pulled plug from the harness to make sure the wheel would stay unlock...and it did....and the computer acted exactly the same....column lock message or remove key.

Now this is where it gets strange I was still getting the wait 10 sec msg about every other start. So after reading a million post on this I cleaned the key, cleaned the grounds, charged the battery, cleared all the codes, and disconnected the battery for about an hour. Now I don't get any msg sometimes but the car still dies after moving a couple of feet So far I have been able to restart it and drive it

PS, 98 a4
The CLb dosnt always work in the A4 97s and 98s. Did it work with the k-harness if it did why did you put a clb in?

The k-harness worked fine for 5 years but the last couple of weeks have been getting the pull key msg a lot got the service column lock once. So I thought the clb would be the answer so I took out the k-harness installed the clb. Now just about every other start I get the pull key msg and the car dies. It has started right up again and is fine until the next time I go to start it

I received my CLB today from Adaptive Performance (http://adaptiveperformance.com/) and installed per instructions. There instructions were Ok but the ones at 97vette.com are much better(http://www.97vette.com/howto/columnlock/index.html). The one difffernce is they told me to pull #25 and #29 if I was getting the lock column or pull key...which I was. Long story short, it is working and not throwing any codes.

Thanks to all!!!

In summary, I had a 97 M6 that started getting pull key and service column lock allow with the fuel cutoff. I got my GM VIS report and noted that a version of the 04006 recall had been done. Since my was a 97, the great sticky on the topic suggested I probably only had the new flash and not the K harness or the relay to the bcm. Once I pulled the knee bolster, I checked to make sure the wires in and out of the harness did not include a white wire...and it did not. A white wire to the steering column meant there is a k harness in place and a white wire on the bcm side of the harness meant I had the other fix with the relay and I would need to remove or do a jumper(not sure which and I am glad I did not have to figure out). Since my lock was actually still working I turned the car on and the disconnted the wires from the harness and then pluged in the CLB.

I checked the computer and was still getting the codes so I pulled the fuses like suggested after removing the key. I waited a few minutes, put the fuses back, turn the key and NO CODES!!!!!!!!!
I have tested about 10 times and perfect. I still plan to find a tuner and reprogram the fuel cutoff speed just in case. Now to reprogram the fob again.

Hopes this helps!!!

I installed a CLB in my 1997 A4 2 weeks ago and after a couple dozen trips, no problems or messages. I replaced the K-harness that was in place but honestly had never had any problems with it. When I initially unstalled the CLB, I got a "pull key wait 10 sec" message. I went in the house to re-read the instructions and when I went back out and tryed again, no more message. What's the deal with some 97-8's not being happy with the CLB?
