How tight do you make the nut on the TPMS can you over tighten them? Can't compare them to the one's I have, will be mounting new wheels. Thanks.

Yes you can overtighten them and snap the valve stem the manual says to:

"Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in)"

This is inches not foot lbs.

The TPS have rubber "o-rings" (97-2000) or rubber bushing type seals (2001-2004).

Over tightening can distort the seals rendering them ineffective.

P.S. –

Verify with the tire shop manager that your sensors are functioning properly, BEFORE any work is started.

Inexperienced installers can (and do) damage the sensors.

It appears you may have a 2001, if so, the values would be 7 N·m (62 lb in).

Default Real tight

Got new tires mounted at a GM dealer who roadforce balanced them.
Had a slight leak. Tightened nut. Problem solved.
BTW the DEALER TECHNICIAN ruined one of my sensors. Talked to the service manager. Told him "came IN with 4 working TPMs will LEAVE with 4" and I'm not paying for technicians error. The service manual says to loosen nut and let TPM go inside wheel BEFORE trying to unmount old tire. He didn't do that. 3 of them survived. 1 did not.

I did not know that So whenever a tire needs to be unmounted for whatever reason (to install a new tire or fix a flat), the TPM has to be removed first as explained above, right?

I forgot to ask: does this apply to both types of TPMs 97-00 and 01-04?
