Default Traction Control Upgrade?

So I have a friend who is an electronics whiz, and makes different electronics upgrades. He has an idea on improving the usability of the TC/SC system on the corvettes (or any TC system for that matter). I just wanted to get your input to see if you thought it was something worthwhile to market.

The system is pretty simple, if you push the TC button it records how long you held the button down (going into competitive driving). Then, when you restart the car the module "pushes" the button again and holds it down for the programmed amount of time. The button itself will still work as OEM and if you turn traction control back on the module will keep it on. The idea behind the module is that it will add a "memory" to the system and leave it in the state you had it when you shut the car off.

Basically if you like to have your car in Competitive Driving or even TC off, and always have to push and hold the button everytime you get in the car, this would help with that.

The module itself is a pretty simple and quick install - three wires (switched ignition, ground, traction control button). Again, everything will still function as normal and can be easily removed to return the car to stock form.

What do you guys think? Something you would have interest in?

Seems like the liability would be huge here. There is a REASON GM defaults to full Active handling/TC on startup-keeps the idiots out of the weeds. Hope you have lots of liability insurance if you start making this.

Just FYI, there's already a plug in that will cycle you into comp mode automaticly. Plugs into the fuseblock under the passenger foot board.

Great, thanks for the link, I guess if he goes forward with this, if anything it can be a competitor to their product? Either way, he was going to install it on my car this evening to test it out.

As far as pictures, I can take some tonight, but it will probably just be a small module, that is hidden, since the interface is still the oem button.

Can be done with a simple timing relay.

When you press the button, you are only completing a circuit to ground. The timing part of it would be if you wanted it to go into comp mode at each startup. If you want all systems off at startup, that's even easier and can be done with a simple control relay.

This is what it will look like:

For cost, he has indicated it will be about $44.99 (half the price of the comparable unit)

No offense, but that makes no sense at all from an aftermarket performance product standpoint. That's like saying you shouldnt buy a supercharger, or turbocharger, or anything because you would be liable for damage to the vehicle, of if you buy road racing slicks and drive them on the street in the rain the tire mfg is liable.

Keep in mind, you would still have the DIC and dash functions letting you know TC is off, or you are in Competitive Driving mode.

PM me, and if testing and whatnot works out, you can buy one of these units and save some money on top.

As far as timing relay, this is completely solid state - no moving parts. It's based around a 1.2mhz processor.

When we get this working I will post up some video and more information as I have it.

.
If it's standard on the car, and you turn it off against what the manufacturer did, you could be liable. If your going to sell it, you should talk to a liability lawyer. At least you might need a waver of liability to turn off a safety device automatically without driver direct intervention.

I see where you are coming from, and appreciate your perspective, I suppose contacting LapTrax to see if they had problems, or even looking at ECM management like EFI Live and others that allow you to turn off the TC all together (as well as tune it) have also done this quite a bit. It would also seemingly be like making a racing steering wheel mfg liable in case of an accident, since they are removing a safey device (airbag).

Either way this would be under an LLC. Again, I appreciate the input.

It will be back some day.

Back on topic... I have owned my Z06 for 2 weeks and almost always prefer the Comp Driving Mode and think it takes too long to manually push the button long enough to activate it.

I like the idea of this product a lot.

I ordered one and installed it today. Always wanted one of the LT's.

Works great at half the price of the comp.

I believe the admins/mods deleted the linked thread about the unit. I never received an email or PM, but I suppose maybe it violated non-vendor TOS? I am not a vendor, but was showing this product for a friend who developed it (as you can see from this thread). He may be willing to pay a vendor fee to share his products, can one of you PM/email me with info?

BTW, I would think letting me know instead of just deleting would be more professional, but I understand your reasoning
