Turn key, lights/dash/everything else normal but no start?
I'm willing to bet, based off of research here, that I either have a loose wire to teh starter or a bad starter. But just in case what else should I check first?
I hooked it up to a 40 amp starter and it didn't change anything. Looking for a couple ideas on what i should check tonight.
well wiring first, or take a hammer and bang the starter a few times (lightly)
Sounds good... Last year I was having issues with the starter. Took it off to be rebuilt, the guys said the starter was fine and they put a new sylinoid on it. Worked great- till thsi morning.
First thing that you need to do is check the connections on the solenoid. They get nasty and sometimes get loose. They MUST be clean and tight!
I have never seen a low to moderate mileage C5 starter fail. If you take one apart, there pretty bullet proof.
However,,,,,,,,,I have seen the SOLENOID fail and fail a LOT! So, purchase a new $50 solenoid from an alternator/starter repair place and see if that fixes it.
If you TAP on the starter solenoid and it starts, the solenoid is most likely the issue
You see the voltage drop because the CRANK position on the ignition switch drops out some circuits and the IPC voltage meter is one of them. Without the starter running, there is minimal current draw.
