An instructor led HPDE if you haven't done that yet and maybe a good intake upgrade. # 1 performance improvement is always gonna be the driver, plus it's just too much fun!

Not a flame, but filling out your profile helps us in offering suggestions. Year, type of car and mods already done impacts those ideas we may have.

Unfortunately 1K doesn't go very far, especially if you don't do your own work.

I would start with LT headers, best bang for the buck aside from nitrous. Get a used set here on the forum. I have seen good sets for as little as 600.00. get the X pipe too.

Find a good deal on a Vararam, I got mine for 160 shipped

Next grab a ported TB 75.00, and LS6 intake 325.00-350.00

Then a tune. You should be able to get by with a street tune here. 180.00 to 300.00

These dont include labor however. But they are not that difficult to do on your own and there is plenty of help here on the forums to guide you.

I know it adds up to more then 1K, but in reality they are all kind of interdependent on each other and you get more power in the end by doing them all.

I would focus in one thing at a time working your way to the completed goal. I'm sure others will chime in with good suggestions too.

Good luck

Several magazine tests have shown 35 or more rwhp from a full exhaust system--LTs,x-pipe with performance cats, mufflers. A good intake like VaraRam is a great addition. So start with quality LTs,and you can add the other stuff yourself as money permits. Have fun!

sorry bout that guys... somewhat of a newbie here.
a bit of info bout my car.. i have a vararam vrb2 with the couplers and velocity stack, b&b bullets, ls2/ls6 heads, comp cam 207/199 .479/.472 117 LSA. the intake and catback are on the car and the heads and cam are in the garage waiting for install.

now i havent been able to find a set of headers yet and believe me ive been looking.. could any of you point me in the right direction perhaps?

also, any idea where exactly i would be when it comes to power? perhaps in the 400 range?

i appreciate any input thanks guys

In that case, LT's/X-pipe for sure, if you want used just cruise the FS section...if your looking for new the best deal I found was for a set of Kooks headers from Maryland Speed - $1328 delivered for 1 3/4 Jet-hotted Race headers/catless X-pipe, or you can call and get a better price if you dont want the coating.

if your budget doesn't allow Kooks/LG/ARH headers - Grab the OBX headers and a dyno tune from a reputable tuner.

Be careful not to buy lower-quality LTs. They aren't worth it at any price,as a search of this forum will show.

I would go with some LT's, but I notice you're from Cali, so that might not work for you. Why didn't you go with a 224/224 114lsa cam? I hear they pass smog no problem.

Gears are another option...

Callaway honker intake (500 bucks almost) and its smog legal and get the street tune, no need of dyno tune, and the rest keep for maintenance stuff, like tune up, plug wires, plugs get the NGK TR55 gapped at .05, C6 Z06 Shifter if u have manual.

well the reason is because i found a member selling the cam for 150 bucks and he said its kind of mild so i figured it would be a good investment... is that not a good grind? plus im not worried about passin smog

Its a reverse split, which I may be wrong but people use these with power adders like turbos or SC I think.

Not saying the grind is good or bad, it's just REALLY mild. If you're not worried about smog, I would definitely get something along the lines of a 224/228 114lsa.

Just to give you an idea, these are the stock cam specs of an 01 and 02 LS6.

'01 LS6 .525/.525 lift, 204/211 duration, 116 LSA
'02-04 LS6 .551/.547 lift, 204/218 duration, 117.5 LSA

I see... do you know someone who might be willing to give me a good deal on a used one? cuz i wouldnt want to spend the money on a new one.. perhaps 2-3 hundred ?
