3.42 Gears Question
Does anyone know if I can upgrade my stock 2.73's to 3.42's with any further mods required. If not, what else would be required to get the 3.42's?
Also, if you can recommend someone that can do this in the New York area that would be great.

If you mean upgrading the 2.73 carrier you have with 3.42 ring and pinions. it wont work. the 2.73 carrier is a different animal.

You need to purchase a 3.42 rear..........
As well as computer update (programmer) for the new rear.

FWIW,
Buy the 3.42's from GM and have them install them. You will pay slightly more, but there are a number of bad sets of 3.42's I've seen around, and if they are the GM gear, and installed by GM they and any installation are fully warrantied.
I had a set installed, they went bad, and GM warrantied the rear even though they were not stock.
