Default Headlight motor question

First, yes I did see the sticky as to how to fix this problem. My question is, what is the theory behind this failure? The motor continues to run after the light goes back to rest. Is there a sensor that states when the motor returns to rest? Causing it to keep running? It seems more like a electrical problem rather than a motor problem. I will folow the advise to fix, but was wondering how do we know that this is really the problem.... thx

When the lid closes or opens there is a voltage load that tells the computer to shut off the motor. If the gear is stripped the motor will turn w/o or little resistance so the computer doesn't get the message.

Replacing the gears isn't that hard but make sure you have someone with small hands to start that last bolt on reassambly.

I found that out when I replaced my gears. I was all worried about indexing the position and some sort of stops but found out it wasn't necessary. Once it is all back together just turn the big **** on the back of the light assembly and your good to go.

Default You will need 24hrs for epoxy to set.

I'm in the process of changing my gears at the moment. Make sure you didn't have plans to go anyplace before you start this upgrade/repair. The epoxy to re-seal the cover takes 24hrs to fully set. This means you can't re-connect your battery for this 24hr period . My motors are sitting in a vice on the workbench.
