Ok, here goes my sad tale of woa! While driving home from work on the interstate running about 70 mph, the engine started to misfire, then I got a check engine light (flashing) and a loss of power. I managed to limp the car off at the next exit where it promptly died. I tried to restart but without really pumping the gas pedal it won't even idle. The engine in question has 38,000 miles on it. I had the car towed home on a flat bed truck. I've checked the obvious, fuel quantity, oil, or any other obvious conditions with no luck. Has anyone encountered this issue before? I'm open for suggestions before I let the dealer nail my wallet. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Unfortunetly I have no way of determining the codes. I do not have a reader to pull them. This is the FIRST ever problem I have had with this car. I'm a little blown away by it. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and ususally figure things out but this one has me stumped.
Thanks,
Pop.
Sounds like the fuel pump died. The only useful code I saw (and I could have missed something, it's late) was the P0300 misfire. This one usually isn't an engine-stopper by itself, but it tells you the engine was unhappy before it shut down.
Whip out your fuel pressure gauge, attach it to the fuel rail, and get us a fuel pressure reading when you turn the key to "RUN" position. Fuel pump will run for 2 seconds to prime the rails, you should see ~58psi on your gauge.
Don't have a fuel pressure gauge? Either go buy one for $20 at Sears or any auto parts store, or have the car towed to a shop.
Thanks for the info on the fuel pump. I kind of suspected it only due to the fact I can "pump" the fuel pedal and she will run (sort of) but spits, sputters and will die only after 30 seconds or so of running. I also suspected valve spring failure, but with only 38,000 miles on the clock, I would be shocked with that kind of failure. ONE thing I failed to mention, I have installed a K&N intake and filter along with a Borla cat back exhaust. I wouldn't think after a year of running it like this that either one of these items would be an issue.
THANKS to ALL who have tried to help. Cash is short and I NEED to get this car running!!

i would undo the battery, then plug it back up and see if she fires. its worth a shot
Tried "resetting" the battery and checked the ground wire on the back of the cylinder drivers side. Ground is tight and the battery reset was of no help. I'm going to go buy a fuel pressure tester tomorrow and check for the 58 psi as suggested.
THANKS again guys!!
I'll throw in my .02 cents - broken valve spring; no need to be "shocked", just check it.
. You need to pull the valve covers off and take a look see. late 02 and early 03 Z's are known to break valve springs. Don't try starting, turning over motor as it could cause additional damage. Let us know what you find and good luck.

THANKS Dan! I'll pull the covers tomorrow and check out the springs. I would think if just one spring failed the engine would still run on 7 cylinders. Rough idling to say the least, but I would think she would still run. Man, these cars are not the ones I was used to working on back in the 70's!! LOL..
Thanks,
Pop.
