Was on the fence about de-screening it. My tuner urged me to do it.
I have a 383 stroker with a large cam, 244-248 113 LSA, cnc heads, ported TB and a vararam.
I used a dremel and ported and polished the MAF up, turned out very nice. The throttle response is much improved and very smooth. My tuner will have the car tomorrow at the dyno and he will make the added adjustments for the mod.
I have a 4:10 gear and it would not be overly happy in 6th gear at 1500 RPM, now its smooth as silk. AFR was still 14.4 - 14.8, not bad.
I was very skeptical, hence the lack of pics, but I must say the time I spent porting and removing the screen was worth it. By the way, that screen was much thicker then I anticipated it to be.
That is all.

Well, I justed posted a question about porting the MAF. I have a Jet Performance and Granatelli MAF and my tuner did not want to tune an aftermarket MAF. Others have suggested to descreen the stock and port it. Glad to see that this does at least effect the butt-dyno. How deep do you go on the MAF?
Didn't measure it really, guess cause I was skeptical, LOL
I have done some TBs before so it was minimal

Just used my dremel and two different grades of grinders, then polished it up. Duh I may have use poor terminilogy. By hand I meant a dremel in my hand as opposed to some complicated cnc machin or such. My apologies. I'll edit the post.
...just a word of warning for those who have aftermarket intake filters and who are considering this mod....Don't do it unless you plan to have your car dyno-tuned. The extra turbulent flow can cause the ecu to throw a lean code or two. This is very common to 02-04 Z06 owners who install an aftermarket intake filter system.
I pulled the screen out of mine with a pair of needle nosed pliers, but I'd never port the housings. Too much risk for little gains.
My last twin turbo LS1 did just fine with the de-screened stocker.
I actually had acquired a second MAF assembly so I used that one and kept my original completely in tact just in case.
And just for the record, (not directed at anyone individual) my title was, MY MAF STORY no where do I recommend anyone to do this. Each individual should make their own decision based on their parameters, careful research and consultation with their tuner. That's why I also included my mods and that I was re-tuning it as well.
Further, I have had some experience in porting TBs and intakes so it was no big deal to me. Just completely disassemble it to protect the diodes (?) or whatever they are called.
I descreened my Maf... but I have a big cam and some heads on it I could definately tell the difference ... I need to retune cause the car is running a bit rich but that was before the descreen
