Default Headlamp motor 98

when I turn on headlamps, lights will not raise at times. I checked fuses and seamed to be OK. Like I stated, Headlights will raise intermittently. Is there any logical explaination? Is there any thing I can check? Thanks for help in advanced.

My drivers side headlight started doing that, after a while it started grinding when it went down - the plastic headlight gear was stripped. Replace it with a brass one. Check the DIY forums for replacing the gear, it's pretty easy.

The usual cause is the stripped headlamp gear as mentioned already. Other than that, there are only two other things, the headlamp switch which has a fairly high failure rate and the headlamp control modual which is a low fail rate.

my left headlight motor was stripping, that was replaced 1 month ago. Ther is no sounds coming from either lamp motor. If it is the switch, what is the best way to handle that? Thanks

Are the lamps turning on even though they are closed? If so, it could be a failure with the controller, but its not an absolute. The headlamp switch can be replaced without taking the steering wheel off. I suggest that you check the fuses first and both ground packs at the forward top frame rails.

lights do not come on when closed. I've checked fuses, all fine. I have no idea what or where the ground packs are, or what they look like. If you could describe , I would appreciate it. Thanks

Bill Curlee has excellent photos of the ground packs. In this case, the two needed are located on the right and left forward frame rails adjacent to the hood risers. They are black with multiple black wires going in and ending with a sinlge ground lug on the frame. I suspect your headlamp switch has died assuming you've checked both fuse compartments.

I'll take a look to see if any problems there. Light switch is not completely dead since the lights go up most of the time. Thanks again

Its probably the switch. Got a place that has them cheaper than most everyone but not a forum sponsor so I can PM you the site if you wish. I ordered one from them for my '99 and it was the exact part.

I was checking switch operation, when lights didn't rise, I wiggled switch and lights activated. So I think its probably is switch. If you could pm me info, that would be great.
