Default Newbie question about shocks

So, my right rear shock is going out...virtually no compression left. I've been researching which shocks to get as a replacement. I've learned that there is an electronic suspension option in the C5. I'm assuming I don't have this option since this is the 1st I've heard of it, but how can I confirm this?

Also, from what I'm reading the 08 ZO6 shocks sound like the way to go. I see where the gmpartshouse.com sells these also. Would that be the best route to take? Will they in fact just bolt on or is there any mod required?

One more thing....are there any specials things I need to be aware of when doing this job? I've worked on many cars in my past, have all the tools, but I've not worked on any Corvettes. I have not seen anything so far, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks in advance!

Check your option codes to find out what suspension you have. You can find it in the glove compartment, which for the life of me I have no idea why we call it that...have you EVER put gloves in the glove compartment?

Anyway write them down and search the net to decode them.

Magnetic/Electronic suspension sucks.

I too have heard the 07/08 z06 shocks are awesome. Good luck!

I checked it out....nothing there....one bar code that reads 3780...that's it.

Is there any other indicator? A control unit visible or something?

QUOTE=DevilMan02;1570459228] Magnetic/Electronic suspension sucks. [/QUOTE] Actually it works quite well. The new Zr1 has it with load leveling feature. So if it "sucks" then why would the engineers use it? The stock c5 with Mag. suspension was able to shave some time over the stock suspension according to Motor Trend back in 04. It may not be the best suspension for a modified vette or all out racer but in stock form it works great (from what I have read).

I believe so, it would be next to the traction control button on the center console if you had it.

The museum says it had an "on board controller" Read about it below.

If you have the F45/F55 MRC suspension there will be a control on the console next to the traction control button.

If you do have this option, and the shocks are bad, you will likely want to opt for replacing them with standard shocks, as replacing the MR shocks are VERY expensive..

See this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ports-wow.html

Also, here are some installation instructions...
