I just bought a Hypertech Power Programmer III on Ebay. Got a great deal on it too. My question is this...
Do I need to install a lower temp thermostat in conjunction with the PPIII? Which one? Why? I live in the south so long warmup times is not an issue to me.
I had a HPP for my '95 LT1. When I ran the program into the Vette, it would ask me questions, one of which was if I installed a 160*F thermostat. If I answered "YES", then it installed a more aggressive program to get presumably more HP. Does the C5 HPP ask those questions like the C4 HPP?
When I had my 99 C5 A4 it was always running around 220 degrees. When I installed the HPPIII and the 160 Degree Thermostat my car never went over 190 degrees. I am going to add one to my 02 when a HPPIII comes out for my car. It is worth the $50 if you live in the South during the summer months.

That depends. :) If you want to try their tuning, you may need lower coolant temps to help guard against detonation. It does have fan control settings lower than stock for the OEM stat in addition to 180 and 160 stats.
I installed the HPP III in my car without the thermo. The car stays below 194 all the time. I also used a MAFT to fine tune the car and was able to dial in perfectly the Fuel, 02's, timing, KR, and so on... It was very happy with the results!!
I have the same product and went with a 172 degree thermostat for a good all around range. Living in the south you shouldn't have any issues with the cold weather IMHO...
