I'm looking into installing a short throw shifter in my 2000. I've looked at the Hurst, MTI and others and can't make up my mind which is the best for the money. I'm looking for a smooth shifter not for racing but everyday use. I'd like to hear, from people, who have actually installed one and are satisfied with it. Thanks
When you say you've looked at shifters do you mean you have driven a car with them? If not then there is no way for you to tell if you will like a particular shifter. My car is a daily driver (the only car I own) and I have the MGW and love it. I'm sure some will say it's too harsh for DD use but to me it's great.
With that said I also understand the MGW now goes for around $250.00 which is about $100.00 more than the competition. I haven't driven the new model MGW but don't think I'd pay that much extra for it. I drove the Hurst, B&M and '08 C6 Z06 before buying my MGW. The Hurst and B&M were were very close to the MGW and all were in the same price range at the time. I think MGW might be pricing themselves out of the market.
Define "smooth". The stock shifter, although being a long throw, is VERY smooth. IMO any aftermarket shifter will be less smooth, BUT more precise. You really have to try it for yourself. For me I have a B&M with delrin **** and love it. Crisp short throws!

MGW here. Bought it about 3 months ago. I couldn't stand how stiff it was initially on shifts and getting into gear, but after about 2-3 weeks its smooth and very precise. no slop as I had in the stock shifter. very short throws.
Shifters are very much a personal preference item...thus you'll get varying opinions. For a daily driver, I would suggest looking into a '09 C6Z shifter assembly. Not exactly a "short shifter", but noticably shorter throws than the stock C5, and just as smooth.
If you truly want an aftermarket short throw, I would pick one up from the used parts section...you can find them for a good deal, and then experiment until you find which one you like the best. Just sell it again if you don't like it.
I installed the Hurst several years ago in my '01Z and have been very satisfied with it. Crisp, precise and good quality. But like everyone who has installed one they all are an improvement over the stock shifter. I stayed with the oem **** just cause it works and I liked the look!
Definitely look in the parts for sale section as mentioned. If you dont like it, sell it off again and try another. I bought my Hurst shifter out of there for $100.00. Really like the shifter. Love the short throws. But as also mentioned not as smooth as a long throw. But I got used to it and could never go back.

Just to throw another option in the mix, we will have our own line of shifters arriving very shortly.
These are designed similar to the Hurst units, and so far have proved to be very quiet on all of our R&D units. I should have full stock in the next few weeks.
I a little dex-cool drip coming from the front drivers side of my LS1.I pumped some pressure into the system. I pumped 15lbs in and it droped to 10lbs and stayed. I used mirrors and climbed all over, but could not find the start of this leak. How far am I going to have to dig?
You'll want to start your own thread on this...this one here is for shifters.
