Default Keyless Entry Receiver?

Hey..

Ever since I bought my '00 last year, the keyless entry/ FOB hasn't worked. No alarm or anything.

I've read that if my TPS works, then the receiver is fine or something..or at the very least that they both work from the same module.

I went to a nearby dealership to check out my FOBs and they both "gave a strong signal." Does that necessarily mean they are working right?

I've tried the re-program thing, and at one point the dash registered that it recognized the FOB...but still nothing when I press any buttons, with either FOB.

How do I know if it is the receiver? And if it is...how much are they to replace?

Did you try resincing the key fobs, after programing them?

You need to read and follow the FOB re-learn procedure in the Owners Manual.

There is also a re Sync procedure. Do the relearn procedure FIRST. You can learn up to THREE Fobs at one time but you have to have ALL your FOBS in the car and do the procedure to all the FOBs that you have. The DIC will step you thru the procedure Lear FOB-1, then FOB-2 and them FOB-3. If you only have one FOB, Learn FOB-1 and then let FOB-2 message time out. You should be good after that.

Look in the C5 Tech Tips section for the procedure. Theres also a forum site that has Owners manuals on line. If you dont have an owners manual,,,look there. Being out of the USA, I "STRONGLY" recommend that you purchase set of C5 service manuals for your year C5. They will save you a LOT of money!!!! There only about $100-$130 USD. Look in the C5 used parts section. Sometimes there in there for less. You can get them new from www.gmpartshouse.com. Gene Culley will hook you up with the best price new!

Once the FOBs are programmed, they should work. If they stop working once they are programmed,,you can try to re-sync them.

Hey thanks Bill.

I actually own an Owner's Manual...which is how I resynced/learned the FOBs in the first place...to no avail.

My car is located in SC...so when I go back there in July for block leave, I'll fiddle with it again...sucks not being able to use my FOB.

After reading your initial post, I have to ask - do your tire pressure sensors work? As you indicated the same receiver is used for the FOBs and the TPS, so if it is receiving the TPS signals correctly, then it should receive the FOB signals too.
Are you sure you have the correct pn FOB for your year?

Yeah, the TPS works. Which is why I'm very confused..

I'm not "sure"....but they ARE the original FOBs that came with the car, though I only have 2 and not 3..

It sounds like your fob's might be dead. Do the relearn procedure again and the resynch (push and hold bot the lock and unlock buttons until the horn sounds). If that doesn't solve the problem try this:

If that doesn't work, time for a new fob.

But I had the FOBs taken to the dealership where they tested the signal...they were putting out a strong signal.

If the car won't accept the fobs they're not working regardless of what the dealer said. The only other possibility I can think of is they are the wrong year.

You say they never worked - could be the wrong year. The 1997 -1999 (with passive feature) and 2000 should all work interchangeably. Of course the passive feature of the 97-99 fobs won’t function on the 2000.

The numbers on the back of the 2000 fob should read – GM10432147 and MODEL/FCC ID AB00216T

Fob problem as well on a 2000 hardtop c5. Just got the car a month ago. They dint work at first. I did the fob learning an one did work for a couple of weeks. Then heavy rain an an now not working. They will learn on the dash sometimes but will not unlock or arm the alarm. The tire pressure sometimes if it sits for a few day goes to zero but as soon as i drive it will register. It seems like the distance got shorter an shorter before they died. New battery in the fob a few hours before a down poor of rain. Seems like it got wet carpet under pass mat was lightly damp. Took out the silver bcm i think on pass side 3 big wire conectors. Removed from metal box the circuit board to inspect an sure enough white powder marks on board that wipe off.

Thinking maybe a pugged air condition vent tube from evoporator. Can hear water sizziling on exhaust if ac is on when car engine is first shut off. Or faulty windsheild installation it has been changed i am sure. any ideas
