I had troubles on my '99 the time before last that I changed out the pads, it started sqealing. No matter what I did for anti-noise, it kept on happening. Finally, fed up, bought new rotors and ceramic pads. Problem solved instantly.
I have a feeling the rotors are the problem though I tried anti squeel stuff on it as I always do. I think the rotors get worn in a certain way and when you put new flat brake pads on it will make vibration noises or a squeel because there not flat to the surface? It can also be one piston on the caliper not pushing out as much as the other too... Im going to take it apart and inspect it next weekend. Ill let you all know.
Wont stop squeeling... SO anoying never did it on the last set of brake pads, any suggestions..
Which pads are you using, did you bed them in, do they stop squealing when they warm up?
My pads squeal like pigs until they are warm, it does not bother me.
(non c5 specific):
Two things normally cause high pitched vibration noise:
Cheap pads and lack of anti squeal compound on the backing plate. Some of the more expensive pads come pre-bonded.
Based on yoursituation, make sure you don't have anything installed incorrectly or otherwise "rubbing" Any metal on metal will squeal.
I didnt resurface the rotors, and I grove the brakes a bit hard to break them in... The rotors are like 15,000 miles old drill and slotted as well. I had warped ones before, I thought getting drilled ones would keep the rotors cooler... I HATE SQUEEKY BRAKES!!!!!!
The stock pads do not squeek. I run those with PowerSlot Cryos and have never had a problem. When it comes to aftermarket pads, PowerSlot recommends Hawks, so I'm sure they'd be fairly quiet as well. There's also a new pad on the market that I used on my Mazda - Wagner ThermoQuiet. They are as quiet as stock pads.

I never have experienced the noise problem, but .. New rotors and GM Delco ceramic pads..DYI.
These are probably those " heavy duty" pads that are a very hard compound for racing. You might take a scotchbrite pad in a die grinder and try to dull out the glaze on the rotors, or take them to the auto parts store and have them turned. Then do the re-bedding and see if that works. Some of these heavy duty pads never shut up though.
