CLB install question, key in off position during install
I'm planning to install a CLB as a preventive measure to avoid getting the CL problem. When installaing the CLB can I just simple turn the ign on to open the lock, then turn it off w/o removing the key to keep it open and then install the CLB? Will I trigger codes or cause other problems if the CLB is installed when the key is in the ign (ign is off)? Should I perhaps remove the battery as well, with key in ign, but in off position? By doing it this way the lock would be opened the way it should be (by the BCM) and any damage from using the 12V adapter could be avoided.

Any input ot thoughts about this procedure?
I followed the instructions and left the key out, used the supplied 12V adaptor plugged into the lock servo motor until it stopped in the unlock position, unpluged the 12v adapter and plugged in the CLB. I got one DIC warning, and pulled the fuse the instructions talk of. After putting the fuse back in everything works as it should. The BCM is happy and so am I!!

Hi Eric, thanks for the input but I thought it would be safer/better to let the BCM open the lock the way it shoudl be. I'm abit affraid that if 12V is supplied to long the actuator might get damaged. Remember everything is fine now, I just want the CLB as a preventive measure.

I'm no expert when it come to CLB's, but I was in the same spot you are now. I would still use the 12v adaptor. Trying to use the key might cause the BCM to go out of phase with the CLB. The 12v only supplies power for the servo motor to allow it to unlock, not much there to hurt if anything at all.
The hardest part of the CLB install is finding the proper servo motor harness plug, once you have found that, the rest is pretty easy and pain free. I'm sure you will do fine with the install. If you did have an issue there are MANY here will and ready to help.
I read somewhere that one thing you are not supposed to do is to turn the key on to cycle the actuator, and then disconnect the battery with the key still on.
Use the power cord to cycle the actuator. Then install the CLB relay. I even disconnected the battery to install it to make sure nothing would short out, but that was probably not necessary.
Even though the actuator pin should not be able to engage the lockplate since it is disconnected, if you ever get the chance, I would still remove the lockplate so that there is no chance it can ever hang up again.
