Default LS3 in C5

I've been looking for a roller FRC 99' vette.

http://www.jegs.com/p/GM-Performance...27485/10002/-1

What would be required to throw this thing into a C5?

And can Viper spec t56s fit on these cars?

You need some adapters. You need the Lingenfelter converter box (your PCM needs a 24x reluctor wheel vs the LS3 58x), map sensor extension, adapters for the fuel injector harness. My brother just swapped an LS2 shortblock (L92 heads, LS3 manifold) into his LS1 Camaro and it seemed pretty easy...just need the adapters.

As for the transmission, it think the unit itself is a direct swap, but there might be some corvette specific parts you need (input / output shafts, etc).

Katech makes an electronic device that allows you to run the 58t reluctor with your PCM so that's not an issue. You will need knock and cam sensor harnesses to match the L92/LS3.

That's about it.

I would also like to know an approximate full install price. What header would/could be used?

Not sure on the cost of the reluctor piece. I don't think it's too bad. The harnesses will run you under $200.

I run and L76 intake which is the same as the LS3.

Check your local "good" shops for install coast. I run American Racing 1 7/8 w/ cats and recommend them highly.

Tom,

I think that includes electronics to control the fuel injection, spark, etc that you don't need if you're running the crate engine in a modern car. I think if you want to drop it into a 67 Camaro, you'd go that way.

Ok Kevin

if some one wants an LS3 for any real performance, we have a thread that in part talks about LS3s over in the Road Racing and Auto-X forum.

in short, add a dry sump.

the New Grand Sport coupe as a LS3 with the LS9 dry sump system.

no offense, but why would you do that? you can get headers and heads/ cam plus a dyno tune and cat back plus vararam for your car and get an easy 400 rwhp.... way more powerful than the ls3..... If you wanna upgrade some things like electric water pump fuel rail and injectors, and msd coils go right ahead and last but not least a 92/92 fast intake....
I bet its more like 425 rwhp with all this and no b/s other than bolt ons then a good dyno tune..... your digging more of a hole buying another motor when the ls1 is just fine! my opinion though.. Good luck

OP stated he's looking for a "roller". Roller = no engine, no trans.

LS1 from GM Performance $6,000 350 HP
LS3 with Hot Cam from GM Perf $7,800 480 HP

That's 130 HP for $1800 pretty good deal.

LS3 has more cubes, bigger heads and a much better intake. Put the same money into both in mods and the LS3 will always be way ahead. No brainer to me.

Well. im sorry but 400rwhp is not way more powerful than the hotcammed ls3.... a stock ls3 vette dynos 395rwhp.... this is hotcammed. so it should dyno about 425rwhp stock, which would put it to atleast 450rwhp with bolt ons and very reliable.

Not to mention it will be more unique than just another built LS1 built C5.

One word: Warranty.

if that is what he wants.

Yes you can build and engine with equal HP, but not for $8,000 you wont.
