Weird driveline noise!!!
I just recently bought a 99 FRC, MN6 80K miles. I noticed lately that I have a odd noise. It almost sounds like a "Hissing". While driving the car anywhere above 2000rpm and let off the gas I hear a noise that sounds like it's coming from the clutch area. If I put in the clutch it eventually goes away as the engine idles down. While rolling at speed and place the car in gear the noise comes back, the lower the gear the louder the noise. Hardly noticeable in 5th, and 6th gear. Like I said it's hard to hear at lower rpm and more pronounced as the engine revs up. Any info good or bad is appreciated.

sounds like a tranny issue to me. when you have the clutch pedal down the only thing that really quits moving is the input shaft on the transmission. the throwout bearing, rear end, torque tube and most things in the tranny keep moving as long as the car is moving.

Could this be a bad throwout bearing or pilot bearing? It almost sounds like a supercharger whine. I know sounds can resonate but it sounds like it's coming from the clutch area. I'm thinking a dry bearing.

doesn't really make complete sense but it def could be. I had a similar noise and it ended up being a bearing in the torque tube.
