Default Finally got a tune

I finally got a tune on my car. The only mods are LG pros and the zip tie mod. The car is an 01 Z06. Before the tune it dynod 356 hp and 355 tq, after 358 hp and 357 tq. Does this sound right for an 01? The tuner did 4 dyno runs but we only picked up 2 hp and tq. The tuner was great to deal with, he answwered all of my questions and was just great. I am just wondering if the numbers are on par with the only mod being LG pros and zip tie?

I've been thinking about getting a tune. If I can only expect to get an extra 2 HP, I will save my money. From what I have read here you should have gotten alot better results.

WOW! Thats it??? When you say LG Pros, you mean Long Tube Headers right???????

If you have headers and a modified intake, you should be able to push AT-LEAST 15-25 HP over what a stock ZO6 should output.

If I were you, I would look at possibly a restricted exhaust (clogged cats), low fuel pressure, Knock which would put your engine in the low octane fuel tables and pull timing,,etc.............

If they properly tuned the engine, he had access to a LOT of data. Did he say that anything didn't look right?? Was he happy with a 2 HP gain????

How much did you have to pay for all that new power????

If you find a smoking gun for the lack of power, go back to that tuner and see if he will help you out with a re-tune.

That doesnt sound right to me, especially for a dyno tune. Although if you got the tune for the headers, and to disable the codes that they cause, it was about more than just HP. Did they lower the fan temps, disable the CAGS, etc etc?

Who tuned it?

Bill, the OP said he has a '01 Z06. That puts him at 385 x .85 = 327.25 so he's showing a 29 hp gain for the headers and zip tie. Isn't that about what you'd expect or am I missing something? 2 HP gain on the tune is something else.

That doesn't sound right. Was it the same dyno both times? Air temp about the same? It feels like I lose 20 horse in the summer here. For us in the desert, it means going from 60 degrees to 110 degrees and today is going to be one of 110 degree days.

Well, yea, thats something that I should have considered.

OP didn't say if the car was tuned previously. If dropping in a set of headers and hacking up the air filter netted a perfect tune Your one lucky sucker!

Ive been a custom to seeing a tuner worth his weight in salt be able to pull at least 10 HP out of thin air or someone else was in the tune previously and did a very good job. If the tune was spot on, then I would say you have what you have!

The tuner should know beyond a shadow of a doubt if the tune was stock when he did the first run and initial tuning. If it wasnt stock and previously tuned,,,,,,, then thats the answer.

Thanks for keeping me straight. Having a NASTY cold doesnt help keep a clear head!

Ive never heard of a dyno tune only netting 2HP. Are you sure that car wasnt already tuned? Did the tuner just tune it on the street or was it a full "dyno tune"? I hope that wasnt a full dyno tune; unecessary for the mods you have. If it was a street tune, then it is what it is and you know the car's tune was cleaned up.

Who was the tuner shop?

The tune was a complete dyno tune. The tuner said everything looked good. No problems came up on the dyno. He did four pulls the last two being nearly identical. He didn't say if the tune was stock. I believe it was, the car was 100% stock when I bought it. It belonged to Greg Zippadeli, it was a gift from Tony Stewart when he won the nascar championship. The tuner also got rid of all codes associated with the headers, lowered the fan temps and got rid of the skip shift. The price was reasonable for it going on the dyno. I was just curious as to what it should actually show. Maybe I have one of those factory freak cars that had less HP than the average. Thanks for the input so far. I will try and post my graph tomorrow.

Well now I know the problem. Stewart and Zeppadelli. You chould have purchased a car from Jeff Gordon, now that's a winner!

I would not expect more than 365 from a 01 Z06 which has LT headers, CaI and tune. 02+ Z06 with same boltons dyno's 380+.

sounds about right to me. That is where I would expect the 01 Z would be with just LT's and a zip tie mod.

I made 378rwhp with the lg streets untuned with the off road x-pipe (11.1:1 afr, b4 tune) and tuned bumped it up to 389rwhp. Vararam, tr55s and a 160 tstat to help it a tad..

Thanks for the replies guys. Now it's time for a cam and maybe heads. Got to take care of some pesky cobras and shelbys at work. They are at 500 or so rwhp. I am hoping 425 or so and my driving skills will better those snakes.
