Default exhaust idea..uh ohhh

so an idea popped into my head and im throwen it around a little bit..

i been shopping around for LT headers with highflow cats and xpipe..

when i get LT headers i plan on getting a tune right away to tune the puppy to the maxxx

what im thinking now is.. get a set of LT headers and just attach a straight midpipe with turn downs that will end approximety where the xpipe spring bolts r to attach the xpipe..
and like i said after i do this i plan on getting a max performance tune..and tune out w.e sensors i would have to by the cats..

i figure its a way to save some money..

would i lose any kind of performance getting rid of the xpipe and cats.. and just run straight threw the headers to straight pipes to turndowns..
even with a tune??
or should i just go with LTs,highflows and xpipe..

probably be alot of backfire and drone also

let me know what you guys think..

Gonna be loud as hell. I ran mine briefly like that and it popped a lot. The interior noise was nuts. Drone like hell. I personally couldn't drive around like that on the street for more than 10 minutes.

For a stock or bolt on setup I wouldn't imagine it picking up any kind of power. But hey, weight reduction with no catback. With H/C or bigger cubes there could be some performance results. Probably not much though.

Electric cutouts would be a better idea if you want to go that route.

cutouts would just add onto the cost.. cuz i would still need a xpipe to fit the LTs..i was also thinkin of goin catless to save some bucks..but idk what i would do if i had to go take emissions..

I've got a catback straitpipe setup and a bassani x pipe i'll sell ya pretty cheap if it's cost you're worried about. then just have the exhaust guy go from the headers to the X pipe ignore the cats if your state doesn't force you to run them..

dumping it under the car will be obnoxious in the car, and if you dont' dump it right it can melt the rear spring..

It'll be insane until it gets annoying. The interior drone is gunna drive you nuts, and the police will be on you like flys on ****. If that's what your after then more power to you, go for it.

I agree with all above 100000% I ran straight pipes WITH CATS on my 98 for about 4 months. Its cool at first. Sounded real guttural and raspy and had lots of popping and gurgling. Interior resonance was insane and actually vibrated screws loose in the cabin! It got old QUICK!!

Open pipes will net you 5-maybe 8 hp on a good day. If you go cat-less,,,,you will quickly notice its MUCH louder and you will get a very rich/pungent fuel/exhaust smell that will get on your clothes, in our hair and burn your eyes. If you gain 3-5 HP removing the CATS your lucky.

Get a good engineered header system and you will be MUCH happier. There are a few companies that sell discount header systems for 700-800 dollars. Save your cash and get one of them AND DO ALL THE WORK YOUR SELF. That will save you a lot of cash.

When exiting the exhaust under the car, if the noise doesn't kill you, the exhaust fumes will. The difference in price between a decent header and the complete LG street header system with cats and x-pipe will only be a few hundred dollars. If you keep checking LG occasionally has discounts on the complete system, sometimes even with free shipping. It's a great system with loads of satisfied customers, including myself. It will add power you will feel.

I have a similar setup. TPIS longtubes, into 3" random tech cats, into 3" dynomax bullet mufflers (straight through race mufflers), dumping right before the rear subframe (right under the transmission case).

I've been running it like this for years. It sounds awesome, very loud but tolerable. The bullets/cats really tone down the rasp/drone/smell.

The electric cutouts are on the car, they aren't in the first 2 pics though. I can switch over to the stock Z06 Ti's if needed. I haven't in forever though.

Your real restriction is going to be the stock exhaust manifolds, so I doubt you will gain a whole lot (couple of HP maybe). You'll gain lots of noise though

Oh man. Please, sell the car and get a 70 Nova if you want to do that kind of stuff. Don't ruin a nice C5.

Go for it then. Lots of guys put cutouts right before the rear subframe. There is a decent amount of room around the tranny so it's convenient. Cutouts are cheap too You'll love it!

If there's one thing I hate, it's the grandpa-sounding quiet corvettes rolling around (usually with 83 coats of wax on it and no other mods). It's a V8 sports car, it should sound like one!

yah but wat would be the difference between cutouts at the subframe and have a straight pipe catback..seems like cutouts would just be a waste of money.. you know??

You still have not answered the question I posted in the other exhaust thread you started. How do you plan on getting through emissions. The car is going to stick soo bad when you pull into the stall, they will know somethings amiss.

Your Zo6 deserves better than that. Please don't chop the car up.
