Have a Lingenfelter, 98A4. the darn serpintine belt keeps jumping the face of the alternater. Have checked the pulley alignment with a steel straight edge, everything lines up. Could this be a tired belt tensioner?? Has anyone had a problem like this, I personally have not heard of this. Was thinking of replacing the tensioner then thought of the manuel tensioners..... They are listed for non-direct drive superchargers, what the hell is that? The lingenfelter has the slave drive on the side, is that a non direct drive? Any advice or info would be greatly appreaciated!!
Is this a new problem or has it had this issue for a while?
The alternator has the highest inertia of all the accessories. Later model corvettes actually have a one way clutch installed on their alternator like the ZR1. If your accessory drive has been altered from the stock configuration you might have to install a one way clutch on the alternator to resolve this issue.
I had something a bit different with my 2000 Lingenfelter. Car is not a forced induction system like yours but I thought I'd mention just the same. The small pulley included, (with the ASP underdrive kit) for the alternator would slip and cause the serpentine belt to smoke. Finally had to leave it off and use the stock one. Then I started getting a chirping/squeak from the serpentine belt. After replacing several belts (Dayco, Gatorback) I found a huge wobble in the underdrive balancer - since replaced.
Have you tried contacting Lingenfelter for any assistance?
My belt used to jump about half way off during track sessions. I upgraded to a C6 Tensioner and problem solved. The pulley has a wider shoulder to prevent the jumping.
I didnt call them yet but I did post on thier forum, what a bust! I have always appreaciated this forum and now even more. No-one there said a word, not even one of the tecs for Lingenfelter. Thanks for the replys guys, this does give me a plan of attack. Does the C-6 tensioner exert more force? Anyway that the direction Iam looking.
Crap, maybe I'll just start with a new stock tensioner. In answering an earlier question, yes this problem has just developed. I am only driving the car on weekends and now not at all. Well it certainly cant hurt to replace the stock tensioner with a new one, Thanks again.
