Default Differences in Hardtop and z06?

Wat are some of the differences suspension wise with a 99-00 hardtop and a 02+ z06? i may end up gettin a hardtop cuz its alot cheaper and better mpg and insurance will be less.
would upgrading to z06 sways help? my cuzin had one and used a z06 clutch in it said it helped alot.

Suspension wise- different shocks, springs, and sway bars

In addition, the Z06 has lighter glass, tires, and cat back. No fog lights, different tranny, rear brake ducts, LS6 engine/ clutch.

Gas milage is not more with the 99-00. In fact, the Z06 should be better, since it has a higher compression ratio.

Sorry to nitpick, but FRCs don't have fog lights either

If you're gonna mod the car, just buy an FRC. You'll spend a premium for the Z06 and then end up replacing the parts anyway. I like the cleaner look without the rear brake ducts myself, plus I heavily modded the car - so FRC was the choice for me

Mine does. RPO and all. Along with Head-up, auto climate, etc.

I guess I stand corrected! I've never seen an FRC with fog lights so I guess I just assumed

I AGREE 100%!! If you re gonna Mod it anyway! On mine, i swapped in everything i wanted from the Z06(even a 427 ci engine, not from a c5). One thing i would do sooner, if i were to do it again is the suspension/shocks! I LOVE the solid feel!

You can get a set of new C6 Z06 shocks for about $250. The C5 Z06 shocks are quite a bit more. The C5 Z06 sway bars are around $215 new. Metal end links are another $100. The springs are expensive, so look around for a low milage used set for around $300. People changing over to coil overs put them up for sale fairly often. The front spring is the same, but you probably won't find anyone willing to sell just the rear.

Yes, you can use the C6 Z06 shocks ($250/4) on a C5. Do a search in the tech section. It's a common upgrade. The C5 Z06 shocks are about double that price. All FRC's had the FE3 (sport suspension) Z51 (handling package) suspension options. Only some coupes came with those options. The Z06 sway bars are a nice upgrade over the Z51 bars. There are larger aftermarket bars available which are stiffer and more expensive. I wouldn't say they are necessary for the average guy on a budget.

I found a set(all 4, low miles) C5Z shocks/struts for $50 in the Parts for sale section on here. Immediate difference! And EASY to swap. As far as ride, it was the BEST mod-imo. It depends on how many miles are on the shocks, whether they are worth using, used. A friend of mine saw mine b4 i installed them and said he wouldn t use them...Im glad i have a mind of my own!
