i have a non ported fast 90mm intake and a ls7 tb with wiring harness adapter. i will be running a 90mm nitrous plate which i dont have. the car is stock minus vararam and exhaust (stock midpipe and headers). i have the week off and am debating installing my 90/90 setup. i wont be able to get a tune for some time and i want to wait on headers anyway. is it worth doing? i still want to run WOT and not run super lean and loose tq or hp.
let me know your thoughts... is it safe with out a tune?
From everything I have read about the FAST 90 intake without headers you are wasting your time and money and will loose low end torque. FAST 90 on a bone stock motor will yield you little to nothing. You may be better served getting an LS6 manifold and porting it with a ported throttle body. I would say you need to focus on getting the headers on the car before you do anything.
All mods on these motors start with headers.
i pulled the fast intake off my trans am before i sold it, i already have the ls6 manifold my car is an 01. just wanted to know if i could drive untuned with the fast 90
IMO the cost of a FAST for the little HP/Tq you gain isnt really worth it. You could send your diff in and get 3.73's or 4.10 and gain way more in performance for damn near the same cost of a full Fast 90/90 setup + Retune!!!
But if you already have damn near every bolt-on (including gears) and just need a little more i guess get the FAST. Or a Moneymaker for a few coins more.
hopefully Vengance didnt port yours because they did a half assed job on mine, and then a year later they offered me $100.00 hush money.
you may gain very little with your set up. Almost like changing from the LS1 to the LS6 manifold.
Look at it almost like your exhaust manifold. you can have a big cam and heads, but cant get all the air out because you dont have headers.
With the 90/90, you can get more air in ( but limited because no cam or heads are increasing the flow), but you cant get the air out.
Will it hurt your car. No
Will you need a tune or lose any driviblity. No
So, if you have the parts and the time, yes put it on, but dont expect to see much differance. If you do it will be in the upper RPM range

One thing you would gain with the FAST manifold is the optional blow out plates (Forget what they are called, anyone want to help with the name) that blow if you have a backfire with nitrous. If you don't have the ability to blow out then a backfire can blow your engine. So for safety it may be a good idea. They are also set up for nitrous ports.
Rarely hear mention of that feature of the FAST manifold. So rare I forgot what they are called
