Default Separating EBCM from BPMV

Thanks to a number of very helpful members, I have become convinced that I can fix my C1214 Code. I have taken all the preliminary steps like checking all grounds (13 of them), checked battery and it's connections.

I planned to remove the EBCM and replace the faulty relay. I already have the correct relay and the electronic skill necessary to remove/replace the faulty one.

My problem is that I have removed the EBCM harness connector and the four screws that attach it to the BPMV---and it still won't move. I have wiggled the assembly and tapped with a hammer, tried to separate them with a screwdriver---no luck. What am I doing wrong? I need to get this done---but how? I'm going nuts!

Thank you for any help you can give.

"6" screws. But a bigger Hammer might work.

What year is your car? On a 99 there are 5 screws. There are pics on here of the various years, they are not all the same.
Sounds like you are missing one.

Thank you for your answers. My car is an '02. I also have the Chevrolet shop manual which says that there are only four screws to be removed from the EBCM to separate it from the BPMV. I used a dental mirror to look at indented areas on the sides of the unit and nothing there. I'll look again, but I'm sure didn't see any other screws.

ByronHunter,Thank you for the diagram you sent. I only used a plastic hammer in trying to loosen the units.

Really, can you post the page from your service manual? My 02 service manual clearly shows 6 screws.

In 2001 and before it shows there are 4 screws and the text indicates there are 4 screws. In 2002 and later the diagram shows there are 6 and the text indicates there are 6.

Obviously there was a change and early 2002 manuals may not have been corrected.

Thank you to all who took the time to help. I found that I did have six screws holding the assembly together, and I got it apart. I also rechecked my version of the 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Service Manual, Vol 1 of 3, GMP/02-Y-1,which had an information cutoff date of 10/10/01 and found that it did indeed show and read only 4 screws. I learned a lesson, don't completely trust the book.

I really appreciate your help.

We knew you would get it, be careful with the hammers.

Any hints on that separation process, like air hammers or chisels?
