Got new rack installed only to find the steering wheel was 90 degrees off
Vendor who sold it to me claims that's "not possible"
Remove New PS rack (much easier the second time)
Photograph for proof
I stacked both racks on top of each other and turned the input until both driver's side tie rods were extended the same distance:
Old Rack on top:
New rack on bottom:
Inputs (again, old rack on top):
Closeup of the new rack:
And the old one:
Note the position of the flat surfaces of the shaft. The steering shaft can only be connected to this input in ONE way. Since the input is exactly 90 degrees off, my steering wheel ended up (I know you're shocked) exactly 90 degrees off.
This is the time to use your credit card companies influence. Call them and tell them what the vendor is doing and say you are not paying that charge. They will open a file and notify the vendor and try to work things out so both are satisfied. This usually gets the vendor's attention as they don't want to be on the credit card company's sxxt list. I have done this several times so I know it works.

I'll be keeping this in mind if I don't get a suitable answer today.
Can't you adjust the tierods to fix this problem? Could the difference be based upon model year? Before you tar and feather them, it seems that an alignment would fix it.

I thought the same and the OP stated in his other thread that on one side he would end up with a couple of threads holding the tie rod in place. Sounds well out of spec.

Ah... couple of threads is definitely not acceptable.
