Odometer went out !!!!

The odometer mileage is stored in the IP Cluster itself. As requested already, are any other DIC indications working or has the DIC display totally failed?

No clue...sorry. You will need to extract it and look at the cables going to and from it for any shorts. I no longer have the C-5 manuals so I can't give you specifics but you should look for any burnt fuses just in case. Have you made an recent modifications inside? I have an extra IP Cluster for a '99 but I don't know if its the same for your's or not and this one had the HUD connector on it.

Remove the cluster and disassemble it. You should be able to see what component is bad. It could be as easy as purchasing that bad component from a electronics store and your back in business.
If you disassemble it and take a picture of the problems that you find inside the cluster, maybe we can point you in the correct direction for repair.

Hi Guys, FINALLY had some time last wkend to take apart the vette and pull out the IPC to check the connections/wiring etc....and couldn't find any loose wires...I checked to see if anything needed re-solder (sp?) on the main board and I'm not an 'electrical engineer' but I couldn't see anything that I THOUGHT might needed to be fixed, the only thing I noticed was...cha-ching...maby?----the screen that produces the read out looks fried/burnt on one side? I took a pic of the other side of the screen so you can see the differance. I'm wondering if that is indeed the problem? or is that how its 'supposed' to look....AS I was also having problems with my AC Unit screen being 'dim' and when I took that apart (out of curiousity) the screen looked similar with that burnt look...
So do any of you guys know if the screen is the issue? (Again my problem was that: All the buttons work, they 'beep' when pushed, but there is no read up on the 'odometer' screen for or any activity there at all)
Please let me know your thoughts, and also if it is INDEED the screen, do I need to buy a whole new main board, new cluster, or can I just buy a new screen and rebuild the board?

Vetgirl, if I were you I would have an electronic tech that is in the service end of the business take a look at this. I've marked some terminals that could be prone to haveing cold solder joints. This type of work is inspected and repaired looking through a big lighted magnifying glass. Hard to tell from the picture, but some of the solder joints don't look perfect. The right person might look over the whole board and if you're lucky, possibly find your problem. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Wow, ok thank you, yes I am not an expert by any means when it comes to electircal engineer---I still don't know how I got an A in that course in college, LOL...---but, none the less...Yes I suppose I could take the board out and take it to someone but since this is my only vehicle and it would take me out of commision for a while, wondering if it would be easy/better to replace the whole board....

Is the burnt spot you're talking about in the top left corner of the screen? And if so, are the terminals I marked under glass? If that's the case, you won't be able to get them soldered.

Yes, the burnt spot I'm talking about is at the top Left corner of the screen, and yes the points you circles are under the glass...that is why I think I'm going to either have to replace the entire main board, OR find a way to replace just the screen...but I need to find out if the screen is the issue or if its something else....

I think the burnt spot is normal. It's most likely an element that is fired in the manufacturing process to burn unwanted gases inside the sealed display. If not a loose connection somewhere on the board, then it will proably have to be replaced. good luck!

That burnt spot is called the GETTER. (don't know if its spelled correctly) It is a chemical that is installed in the vacuum envelope and is ignited by applying a voltage to it. It consumes any oxygen that was left in the tube.
To troubleshoot your issue, you need to see if the bias voltages and grounds are all correct to the display. The problem is,,,there isn't a schematic that details that board. Its proprietary. You would need to get a working display and compare voltages on the display.

OK, thanks Bill for explaining what that 'burnt' spot was!!!
I think the route I'm going to take is to try to buy a used cluster from 99-04 off ebay or corevette recycling and replace it rather than trying to find out which connections need what....as I don't know how to solder and even what I'm looking for...clearly, LOL.
Now onto the next question:
When I instal the new/used IPC, I assume there is some programing to be had. Do I just install the new IPC and drive my happy butt over to the dealer and ask them to program it , or....are there certain 'chips' etc that need to be transfered from my current panel to the new panel....
ALSO, since this has been an issue for a WHILE and I haven't been able to check my mileage, I'm unaware of what my current odometer reading is....when they 'program' it at the dealership, will they need to know this....? Or can they find out by other means?
