Default New to boards! Wheel question.

Hey guys!

I just purchased my first Corvette. It’s a 1998 C5 convertible. I’ve spent hours reading the boards and looking at many of your beautiful cars. I’ve only had the car two weeks but I already have a bunch of ideas for things I want to do.

I’d like to start by getting new polished aluminum wheels, breaks and rotors.

What do you suggest I do for the wheels? I can get aftermarket wheels all over eBay. Thing is I’m a total noob and I have no idea if these things are any good. Should I pay extra and get GM factory wheels?

I need 17 inch fronts and 18 inch back... right?

Oh my, this is going to be a lot of fun but I have so much to learn!

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd go for something aftermarket like say i-Forged, CCW etc.

Factory style wheels are the best for the $$-the factory finish from what I've seen lasts the longest. Most of the aftermarket wheels I've looked at have a 1 year warantee on finish and even if something does happen to them under warantee, you have to pay to ship them around. GM made some decent looking wheels for the Corvette (not your Wagon Wheels unfortuntely)

I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I may risk getting kicked out of the C5 forums but I really have a sweet spot for the 07 and newer Z06. They’re still out of my budget though. I wanted a Corvette and I’m really enjoying my convertible but I decided I had to pay cash for my toy. I didn’t want to finance the car and the 07/08 Z06’s are selling for 60/65 in Canada.

So I’m not sure if I should put money into my 98 and make it exactly what I want or if I should just enjoy it for a few years until the prices on the Z06 fall into my range and then sell mine and get the car I really want.

It’s going to be hard though because like I said I’ve only had the car two weeks and I’m already looking at wheels and exhaust. Do you generally get any of the money you put into them back or will the car be pretty much worth what it would normally be worth?

Cars with mods really aren't worth much more, if any more.

If you bought wheels/exhaust and then wanted to sell the car, you could always put the stock parts back on and sell the used wheels/exhaust. Probably get half your money back.

There are thousands of choices of wheels and sizes. Most people get 18s or 19s.

Seach the For Sale section here on the forum. There are many people who upgrade their rims and sell their old ones here. Just keep an eye there for a good deal!

Well, both those links clearly state:

Designed specifically for the 1997-2004 C5 and C5 Z06 Corvette!
Get whatever size wheels you want. I don't understand the question. They will all fit, or at least they are claimed to fit by the seller.

I told you... I'm a noob!

Thanks!

I think I'll go 18 front 19 back. Now I just need to figure out who ships into Canada!

I'm looking for opinions! I'm seriously considering getting some CCW SP500 wheels.

I'm having a hard time deciding what finish would look best. I'm thinking of going with the satan black finish as seen here. http://www.ccwheel.com/files/zoomed-...id=Satin_Black What do you guys think? Do you think they'll look good with silver body black top and black interior? Is there anyone out there that could post a few pictures of their silver/pewter C5 with black wheels.

Thanks.
