I posted this on the General Discussion site without much success.
When I start the car for the first time, the AM radio doesn't get a signal. FM works fine.
After about 10 minutes, the AM band works fine.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks in advance.
I never heard of this particular problem before. The FM works from the start, but no AM until 10-minutes after startup.
The only (and very limited) help I can offer is that the coupe has two antennas one in the windshield, and the other in the rear hatch glass. There is an antenna control module that is located on the driver’s side door lock pillar under the trim. Both antenna wires go to this module plus the radio control wires. I don’t know if both antennas work in unison on both bands (AM & FM) or one for AM, and one (or both) for FM.
Maybe check around this control module area for signs of moisture or other damage. Maybe after the 10-minute period you speak of, the module warms up and the AM signal is sent out to the radio.
Anyway at least this will serve as a “To The Top” for you.
I have opposite the problem. My AM works in the morning, on the way to work, but not on the way home. Figure its a heat related problem ( car is in the sun while parked at work), but I have not tracked down the root issue. I have a feeling its in the antenna. If you figure it out, send me a PM, it might help me.
While thie may not have anything to do with solving the OP problem, I disconnected the rear windshield defogger and the AM reception got better. I will plug it back in next winter.
And before some one asks why listen to AM, it helps in the evening trafic.
