Default Fuel pump?

I think the fuel pump is going out on my vette. Its beginning to start hard. I get a waaaha waaaaha waaaha noise when I turn on the ignition... instead of the nice consistent eeeeeeeeeee noise.

My guess is it's the stupid fuel filter that from what I understand is built into the pump. Is there any way I can cleans the fuel tank with some additive or anything like that? I hate to have to drop the tanks to change the pump.

Thanks!

First of all, if you sig is correct and have a 99, the fuel filter is not built into the pump. It is combined with the fuel pressure regulator, and is mounted on the left rear inner frame rail.

You need to check the fuel pressure at the rail, and check bleed down.

Hard starting can also be attributed to plugs/wires, etc.

You have been given BUM DOPE! The filter is easily accessable on the drives side frame rail out board the tranny.

Yes,,,you need special tools to de-couple the filter from the line but you can purchase a set of them from damn AutoZone for $10

What year c5 do you own???

97-98 C5s had very noisey pumps.

Yeah...

1. I took german and could spell equally well to mein english haha. Hince weinerschizel but it stuck so I kept it.

2. Yeah I might have gotten bad advice from a mechanic. he had told me all vettes were like the chrysler I worked on and that pump regulator and filter were all one piece. I'll replace the filter regardless I'm sure it needs it.

3. As far as I know the plugs are new.

4. Funky sounds from pump are what keyed me off to thinking it's the pump. Plus it's starting hard.
