Does anyone know what might be wrong with my left speaker, it is dead and wont talk. I live a fer piece from normal society and unless it doesn't require sophisticated tools, like pliers and screwdrivers, I will have to drive all the way into town. I've tried kicking and punching it, but that doesn't do anything. Can you help me? Lynn Johnson

That's strange, usually kicking and punching does the trick...
You will have to remove the door panel to access the speaker, and do a visual inspection first. If everything looks good, you can temp hook up a spare speaker to see if the amp is working at all.
Don't forget to check the most common C5 problem, wires (connectors) inside the A pillar. If that dosn't seem to be the problem, switch the right and left speakers.

Not yet, but I'm a bit leery grabbing one of those high tech tools ie. screw driver, and jamming it in to the upholstery to get to where you want me to go to fix it. So I'm going down to the GM dealer shortly and ask him to perform the invasive surgery. I'll let you know. Thanks lynn
Forget the High Tech tools for a moment. Grab the wireing bellows between the door and A pillar, and shake the hell out of it. You never know, you might get lucky. On another note, do you hear anything coming from the speaker on that side?

At the door handle, there is a small plastic oval cover about 2 inches long. Carefully pry it up from the bottom so you don't break it. Remove the two torx screws you'll find behind it. From there, a large flat blade screwdriver or similar tool is needed along the bottom edge of the door panel cover. Start on the bottom rear side and carefully pry it out. You'll find there are several white plastic retainers all along the sides and bottom that you are seperating. Making sure the window is down already, lift off the whole panel. Be ready to hold it while you disconnect some connectors to the door controls. From there you can easily find the speaker connector. If you find it is hooked up, you'll need to test that connection for audio in order to know if your speaker is bad or the signal to it is missing. The best way is to use another speaker and some simple wires. You can also use a DVM in the AC mode to see if you have any signal on the connector coming to the speaker. If nothing there, then you need to check out the head unit itself and its connectors coming from it behind the center console. That too is very easy to pull on a C-5 and a nightmare on the C-6. The amp is located in the passenger footwell for the audio, so you might want to open that access panel and take a look in there for things like water or water damage.
