Default Fuel sensor problem

Does the fuel sensor problem in the c5 affect anything but the fuel gague. Will the car stall because of the sensors. Can it just be ignored. Can't you use the trip odometer to track when it is time to fill up and forget the gague? I'm out of warenty.

I went four months without replacing mine. I just used the trip odometer and the miles per gallon. But it was a pain in the but and not worth it.. I was out of warrant and did the work myself it actually wasn't that hard pull your codes and see which side it is the drivers side is code 461. You can get buy with just replacing the sensor. It will cost about $42 the part number for 97-2000 is 88899034. If it is the passenger side the code is 1431. This side will cost more because they redisigned the jet pump. The part number is 88896043 it will cost about $350. The sensor curcuits look the same though I think it would be possible to use the left hand sensor cicuit on the right hand side if you wanted to save some money. You could order the part and return it if it didn't look like it would work. On a side note when mine started to go out the inaccurate reading from my left some times triggered a code for the right. The voltage readings were not the same and the computer had a hard time deciding which one was wrong. When it finally died altogether just the code for the left showed up. If you're going to replace it I can send you all the directions.

The chronic fuel gauge problem is with the readings only... it doesn't affect the engine operation.
