I was wondering what the loss of hp might be with say... a 100k mile LSx , assuming regular maint and oil changes were done throughout the engines life and the engine runs normally.....
I have an 80k LS6 that comparatively feels as strong as one I had in the past with 20k miles on it. Both engines have very close mods, both 02 Z06's
I have seen data a couple times in the past (years ago) where tests were performed on small block Chevy engines with 200K & 300K+ miles. These tests were specifically run to answer the question of horsepower (performance) loss over the life of an engine.
One test was done on several engines that saw service in a taxi fleet. I don’t recall the particulars of the other test but both tests confirmed a negligible loss in power – less than 5% in high mileage, well maintained engines.
I have a high school acquaintance who circle races. He always claims his engines are running the best right before they blow. In other words, they're ready for a rebuild because the bottom end clearances are getting a little on the high side.
They say number 7 runs leaner then the other cylinders. Well at least what I was told. I was running a 125 shot. Engine had like 3000 miles. Still under warranty. It was an idiot mistake during install which caused the system to not spray fuel and that was it. Only sprayed 2 times. Didn't even have a chance to correct the problem. I took it to the dealer and had it replaced under warranty. Thank god the owner had a ful blow race corvette and helped me get it covered
I actually drove it home like that and it still felt strong. Just the #7 piston ring failed. Cracked a tiny bit.
If you are running alot of HPDE's at high RPM, you will begin to lose HP. This is because the valve springs weaken. We have less than 16K on our T1 car......was WAY down on HP (354rwhp)when we got it and a simple head rebuild restored 35rwhp (389rwhp).........
No port or polish, just new springs and a valve job.
