If you have pressure jumper across the low pressure switch to see if the compressor energized and cools. If it does you have a defective switch. Also check for 1 of the two wires having 12 Volts at the plug.

All depends on mileage. If I had 75,000 or more miles I would consider a new one. If not I probably would not change it. The miles you drive each year also plays into the decision. If you only drive 1000 miles and it isn't leaking I would not change it. But if you drive 15,000 I would given 75,000 or more miles

But this is only an opinion and your opinion may vary and differ. Just my $.02.

Thanks Jim. It has 136K on it and I just got it. So I am 'a-fearing' the worst case. AC was charged the day I picked it up but was hot in 2 days. So well see.
But thanks for your response!

With 136K miles I would definitely replace the water pump if you have to pull it unless this is just a show only car and is trailered.

It has given full life service and could fail any time. I also recommend buying NEW vs rebuilt. Consider the upgrade water pump with the removable thermostat vs the earlier with the thermostat built into the neck.

You can easily change the compressor yourself.
get an acdelco from rockauto.

you need to remove either the water pump or the exhaust manifold and take the compressor out from top or bottom.

no hard work at all.

check the orifice tube and if it's not full of debris, you dont need to flush the system.

So as we continue to experience record heat this summer in San Antonio I now have the joy of needing to get my AC compressor replaced in my 2000 C5. How much am I looking at $$$ wise for this repair? I know I need to find a good shop first which will be half the challenge. Should I get the compressor and take it to them or let them order it? New compressor or rebuilt?

Just finished my headlight motor repair this weekend and had hoped I wouldn't have to worry about anymore repairs for a while.....didn't make it 3 days. UGH!
I hear ya....16 or 17 year old Vettes, that are driven, are going to keep us busy.
