I get an intermittent grinding/scraping noise coming from the rear end when I make a 90 -180 degree turn at about 10-15mph. Chev dealer has replaced the wheel hub bearing assemblies on both sides and lubed the brake calipers. And I still have the sound. Can anyone help me out? :cry

Re: Grinding/Scraping Noise From Rear End (Bandit1)
How many miles do you have? Have you checked the gear lube level in the rear-end? It could be clutches chattering. Try changing the gear lube. I've been running Red Line for almost a year now with no problems. :)

Re: Grinding/Scraping Noise From Rear End (Bandit1)
If the fluid level is OK you might try adding a couple ounces of the friction modifier (Supplement) GM sells. If you're low then you will have to add a little bit of the supplement to the lube you add. It comes in a four ounce bottle I think. I believe it's listed in your owners manual along with all the other fluids. One of the things I like about Red Line (and Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc) is that the supplement is already pre-mixed in their gear lube. :)
Re: Grinding/Scraping Noise From Rear End (Tx99FRC)
This just happened to me 30 minutes ago... Please tell me if this sounds like the same situation.
I just got new tires and got rid of the run flats so I've been testing them when I get a chance. Coming into my subdivision there is a 90 degree right hand turn off the main street and then my street is an immediate left 90 degree.
so just now I'm slowing from about 35 downshifted into 2nd gear as I approach the turn. At about 25 I crank it to the right (no brakes) and get just a little bit of slide then crack to the right at about 20.
as I head up hill, up the street about 50 yards, I get this noise like I've run over something and got it wrapped around the half shaft. It also might have sounded like a nail in the tire, although the noise had a higher rpm than the revolution of the tire.
I slow down and turn the engine off but the noise is still there. I turn the engine back on and when I get about 50 yards from my driveway...the noise stops.
I checked the tires with a flashlight, checked the brake pads, the ss lines, and anything else I could see (without putting it on jackstands) and so far have found nothing.
I took the car out for a test drive and things seem fine. I even went back over the path slower to simulate the movement of the chasiss and look for anything I could have run over...but nothing there either.

Re: Grinding/Scraping Noise From Rear End (Gary2KC5)
Not sure what's going on in your situation Gary. Possibly something in the "road debris" category (tree branch, plastic bag, piece of wire, etc)?
Maybe got temporarily hung up on or near one of your drive axles? The fact that the situation no longer appears to exist is a good sign. If it was the clutch pack in the rear end I feel fairly certain it would be sounding off on a regular basis, especially when going around corners or when you drive in a circle in a parking lot. In your case "silence is a good thing"
