Default Intermitant turn signal problem

I have a 2001 coupe that I am having an intermitant turn signal problem with. Every so often when I put the turn signal on nothing happens. Then it works fine for a while. Drove it to Chicago area last week ( 340 mile round trip ) and it did it one time. Drove it last night on a 60 mile round trip and it did not happen at all. Two weeks ago it did it all day on one trip. All turn signal and tail light bulbs are working. Went to autozone to buy a flasher and was told it does not have one. Also could not find a flasher anywhere in the manual wiring schematics. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

If it's all your turn signals, it may be the multi-function turn signal stalk/unit needs to be replaced.

If it's the rears only, the hazard switch/flasher might be the problem.

My 2000 was doing the same thing until I did the flasher bypass mod I found here in the tech section. There is a flasher that is electronic and goes bad frequently on these cars but it is up inside the dash and will go bad again. The flasher mod just bypasses the stocker with a more reliable one. There is one you can buy that plugs into your harness under the steering column, or you can make your own by cutting 1 wire and jumpering another. (I did the latter) Search it out on here and see what you think.

Next time it does it, start pushing the hazard button like a maniac about 10 times and see if the flashers (turn signals) start working. That is the easiest test I know of to see if it is going bad. The flashers will work again for a while, but they will screw up more and more till the electronic flasher finally calls it quits. The bypass I did that cuts 1 wire and jumps the other cost me $12. The inline harness one that you just plug in is like $70 I believe.

That cableone website will be going away sometime soon. Here's the link to it's new location:

I hate to say this because it's not an actual fix but a friend had this problem and told me that you should tap the dash above the 4-way flasher switch and the signals will work.

One day mine started to act up and sure enough a light tap to the dash made them come on. This winter I would like to dig into the dash and fix the problem but for now I rest well knowing that if there is a problem I can tap the dash and be on my way.

Sucks if people are in the car though commenting on how sweet the vette is and then you have to pull a Fonzie move to make the signal work.

I fiddle with my hazard switch to get mine to come on.
