When I drive the for about 2 hours I start hearing a noticeable humming sound from behind inside. I open the little compartment in the aft left and there is what appears to be an electric component (silver with cooling fins about 4" x 6" )?? I did a search and came up with one thread and the discussions was about an electric fuel pump.
Can anyone comment on this. My vette: 2003 50th edit. coupe, manual 6.

The fuel pump is in the tank. Have you owned this car since new?

There are no factory electronic components inside any of the aft storage compartments.
My guess would be the left side fuel pump is noisy. Does the noise change pitch with varying electrical loads, such as when the turn signals are on?

Yes I have owned since new, well actually it had 257 miles, previously registered so I bought used although the guy used it very little and still had the plastic protection stuff from the factory as he quickly changed his mind and got an 03 z06

I will take your word that there are no components inside aft storage from the factory. It could have been added by previous owner to boost the sound system.
I will check for pitch change with varying loads.
If I get pitch change does that relate to the fuel pump? If so, does that indicate a impending fuel pump failure?
There is an electrical component in the left rear storage box on vettes equiped with the F45 adjustable shocks. My vette also humms sometimes. It is my fuel pump. The hum is normal if not to loud.
I suggest that you modify your exhaust/engine to mask the sound :-).

As you guys know the 50th had ride control. So at least I learned what the electric box is in the aft left compartment. As a friend told me wehn I showed it to hime "that looks expensive"

My car is a 1998 coupe and when I allow the fuel to run near empty I get reminded to add fuel by the hum.
My 2000 A4 Coupe hums when the fuel gets to about 1/2 tank. Sounds like the bilge pump on my boat. The fuel pressure is good so I just add more fuel and turn up the tunes.
it is not uncommon for our fuel pumps to make noise. on mine it comes and goes, seems to happen more when I drive home after a track day (i guess the pump gets a good workout). Hearing it for second year now, and it still works fine.
