alright guys I need some help. So i bought this throttle body for my 03 Z and i have to send out my stock ls6 intake to it modified for the new throttle body. well i take everything off and send the intake off. well I get it back today and went to install it. The car started fine and was perfect until i let it heat up to opperating temp. Once that happened an awful squeal started coming from the car. thought it was a belt and have pretty much eliminated it. The noise is coming from the back side of the motor. it is loud up top but really loud if you bend down and listen right behing the front wheels. you can rev it up and it gets faster, then slows down as the motor revs. It get louder and louder when you shut the motor off and quits after she stops running. i changed my clutch fluid last week, that is the only other thing i have done to the car. the clutch pedal feels normal and engages and disengages like it did last time i drove it.
i am at my wits end with this. any suggestions you have will be great. i plan on taking the intake off tomorrow when my buddy comes over to my house. we are basically taking everything off we put on today and starting over.
Doubtful the squeal is related to the TB or mods to your intake manifold ... symptoms and apparent locus of the noise would lead me back to the clutch as the logical source, despite your indication that it appears to be engaging and disengaging normally.
Vinny's question above may hold the key ... if it squeals with the clutch disengaged and the car warmed up, that's likely to be your issue. You didn't indicate your odometer readout or describe your driving style or how you use your Vette, but it is possible you may have simply have unmasked a worn-out clutch component, and are due for an R&R.
Check out the stickies on Corvette Mechanic on this one ... one of their tech gurus has some expertise and strong opinions about clutches, especially aftermarket units, and one of the embedded posts may lead you to a better understanding of, and solution for, your problem. Good luck with it.
sorry, the car has 47,000 miles. it doesn't matter if the clutch is pushed in our out, it squeals and doesn't change pitch till i rev it up. i am moving it to my other garage today and getting it over my pit and checking it out futher.
the more i think about it, the car ran a higher temp last night for no apparent reason and stayed there. i think i just got some antifreeze on the belts and pulleys so they are going i for a good cleaning
have to get it done cause my car was supposed to get tuned today
Yeah, sounds reasonable, and theorhetically, unless you've been tracking the car, and still got the OEM clutch, there should be some life left at 47K, but even with the other symtoms and speculation about belts, I wouldn't totally dismiss it as the culprit.
But like any other problem with your C5 (in my case, every electrical issue or problem ever reported) it's like that NJ boardwalk arcade game Whack-a-Moley when you're chasing symptoms: you swat one and another pops up nearby.
If you're frustrated, at least your not alone ... the number of professional techs who are chasing ghosts here and on the Corvette Forum and are looking for concensus or reassurance from other techies is frightening ... it seems that dealing with C5 issues is much more an art form than a science, and like those of us among the great unwashed and untrained, the professionals themselves have as many differing opinions about much of this stuff as we do.
Please don't neglect to report your experience with this symptom, and share with us how you fixed it.
welp, when and got all new belts today, tried the belt game to see if a tensioner or belt slip was bad. this did nothing other than get new belts on the car. went for a drive down the street with it and just cruising at one speed the squeal is there, give it a little load and it goes completely away. after a 5 minute drive around the block it was the same at idle, cruise speed it would either be loud, non existant, or just barely chirp. once it did start just give it a little gas and it went away.
got any new ideas. pulling the intake sunday to check the gaskets. i don't see how a vacuum leak can be this loud and sound like it is coming from the bell housing
i drive it like every other weekend and occiasionally do some spirited driving with it. i bought it used and the guy i bought it from said he never raced it.
So i bought this throttle body for my 03 Z and i have to send out my stock ls6 intake to it modified for the new throttle body. well i take everything off and send the intake off.
What modifications are done to the intake to accept the aftermarket throttle body? I would inspect the areas they modified for poor fitment or cracks.
Definetly sounds like a vacuum leak to me probably on the back side of the manifold. You would be able to hear it in front more if it was the throttle body. When you give it gass it takes away the vacuum noise because the throttle body opens and the vacuum goes down. Vacuum leaks make cylinders run lean and engine temps can go up

well, it is now fixed and boy what a mess. well i start to take evey thing back off and when i go to unplus the knock sensor wires it just falls right out. well, it turns out that the wires were cut in half when the intake was put on friday night. some how they managed to get in between the manifold and the head. so luckly my buddy has an extra block laying around and i was able to go over there and get the one off his motor. now i have to order some new ones to replace the ones i took from him.
all in all, not a hard job at all, just make sure to tape the knock sensors wires down so they don't move on ya.
