Default different engine position in 99 frc?

i read after having some troubles with my vararam power duct, that they dont work too well on the 99 frc's. this is because apparently the engine sits 3/4" farther forward due to some different motor mounts. putting that aside... is this actually true? i cant imagine how many things would have to be redesigned if the engine sat that much farther forward. the exhaust would be different, longer driveshaft, longer torque tube. i cant imagine what else it would affect. does this have a negative effect on the weight distribution of the car? why the different motor mounts?

thanks!

All C5's have the engine in EXACTLY the same place. Not sure why your duct doesn't fit but MOST don't sit well from what I have seen.

Not sure about the engine in the FRC being set any differently than a coupe, that's news to me. We put a Varraram in my brothers FRC about 5 years ago, and it fit. It wasn't an easy task, it took a few hours but we got her in. You just need to stay at it. I can't recall any tricks, or things we did to make it finally fit, but it fit with a little fuss and finess.

Good luck!

I doubt it very much. Why would they have moved it? The FRC just has a different roof/rear glass/hatch/truck section. Otherwise it's the same car.

Having said that, I have a 99 FRC as well, with a Vararam. There were no problems installing it.

My power duct fit just fine without any modifications what so ever! I have read about some different mounts else where on the forum also though,I thought they made the engine sit lower.Call vararam tech,I think they have a different duct for this problem.

There is only one part number listed for '97-'04 motor mounts on Gene's website.

I have a 2000 FRC, but I can't see that being possible. The clearance at the front of the engine to the steering rack is almost non existent. If it were 3/4" further up it would damn near rub on the steering rack.

+1 for the engines being in the same place and not moved forward. I have a 99 FRC. I removed my old motor and put in a forged LS2 403. I had the entire drive train removed when I did this because I did some work on the drivetrain. There are no slots anywhere in any of the mounting points. In fact, all the chassis to body and motor points are doweled. There are shims in the suspension mounting points for the A-arms, but that is the only places I can think of that provision for adjustment is made.

I have to agree with your assesment that if this were the case that there would have to be a different set of driveline components to accomplish this, and although GM is weird about certain things, I don't see how just doing this on 1% of the frc's in 99 would be practrical from a manufacturing standpoint.

I've been considering getting this coupler for my setup, but now that I see what is occuring, I'm holding off until this gets resolved.

One thing that may affect this is the radiator mounting can be fudged about 1/2" front to back. I had to move mine around a bit to get my coupler, (a modified haltech) to fit low enough to allow the hood to close. It still pushes the hood up a bit, but I need to take the coupler out and cut about another 1/2" off the TB side. I needed to cut some off the TB side because I chose to mount my MAF at the TB. It cut down on turbulence which was causing wild fluctuations in the AFR.
