Default E Brake Help Needed

I own 98 6 Speed and my E Brake handle broke yesterday..kinda of need the E Brake with a manual....

You lift the lever and the handle will not catch. The button can be pulled out of the handle with the metal rod attached. I pulled the center console and bezzel out to see what was going on. I can push the latch with my finger and the brake will hold. It appears that the rod that is attached to the button wraps around the latching mechanism some how to keep pressure on the latch so it will catch untill the button is pushed to release. I just can not seem to figure hout how it wraps or connects to the latch. I am also not sure if part of it is broken off or not. the end of the rod has funny bend or curve that appears like it should wrap around or hook on something and if it is broken on the end it is a very clean break....any Ideas on how to re-attach the release rod at the latching mechanism?

Any input would greatly be appreciated as I dont really feel like removing the seat and replacing the entire Ebrake handle assembly as well has having to adjust the cables etc......

I would buy a used E-Brake Handle Assembly from a “recycler” like http://www.clevelandpickapart.com/ (they part out MANY C5’s & C6’s)

Inspect the newly purchased working unit and see if repair of your broken unit is possible.

Repair the original unit then sell it to recoup your money. Or keep it as a spare until you sell the car, then sell it.

P.S. Get a price quote from forum vendor Gene Culley on a NEW unit first. It may pay to buy new at a discount.

Guess the link won't help a whole lot if the loop is broken off...
