How is it a "lucky find"? The OP provided what work had been done on his car and what the symptoms were. Knowing that as part of a header install the steering shaft is sometimes removed, would it not be the first thing to check?

I have seen far more complicated problems successfully diagnosed on this forum with far less information. Given your premise we might as well shut down the tech section altogether.

To the OP, glad you got it fixed. That's what makes this forum so great, people willing and able to help out those in need.

I understand what you're getting at and don't mind the comments you made. I just feel that sometimes, while a lot of us aren't pro mechanics, just don't have the experience and simply need some minor guidance in the right direction.

It definitely may have been lucky, but had I not tried and persisted on finding someone that has some experience with this problem...I may not have been able to fix it and learn something in the process.

Definitely some issues with the shop. Already called and left a message. Hope to hear from them on Monday morning.

Just about every cost free fix I have done on the 3 C5's in our family came from someone elses post replies. I didn't even have to start any of my own threads. I just used process of elimination with the information provided to others questions.

OP- glad you were able to fix the problem.

Glad you had such a good set of experiences. My case on the other hand was different, if I would have gone with the forum's concensus rather than troubleshoot the system when I was having problems with my clutch I would have ended up installing expensive aftermarket clutch parts that would not have resolved my issues. I have a new stock clutch that works very well, the car gets tracked regularly so it sees severe service on occasion.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one with a skeptical view of internet trobleshooting. I don't disagree that there is a wealth of information on the forum, some good, some not so good. When it comes to troubleshooting, I prefer to use a service manual and some diagnostic tools.

God I Love this Forum! I had the same issue and BANG! It is fixed like new. Simple yet very effective!

Tighten that bolt as tight as you can and your play will go away.

Thanks man.

Lucky guess? The facts were loose steering after header install. The instructions for the Dynatech headers tell you to remove the steering coupler and do NOT move it or you'll throw a code. The advice given to tighten the bolt was dead on. No other steering items get messed with during a header install.

Its sad that its so hard to find a decent mechanic. I hate to turn my car over to them for my Penna, state inspection.
