I am installing my shift light in the new 2000 project car. It was in my Z but the tach was wired at the coil pack on the motor. After doing some research I found that there is a way to get the signal under the dash. That’s great and that has been my project for most of the afternoon. I have been referring to this link for help. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...pics.html#goto
Here is my problem. I do have three white wires. One is an off white color. I spliced into that wire with a light tester with no luck getting the tach to bump. I then spliced into it with a wire and hooked up the shift light. It did not work. I am starting to wonder what the deal is with the 2000 year. When I was doing the gauge install with instructions from a&a corvette. It said my purple wire would be the switched wire off the trunk release that was powered with the lights on. It ended up being the brown wire. So does anyone have an idea what wire works on the 2000 for the tach signal?
Ok, so I finally got it installed and working properly. My advice to the next guy. There can be four or three white wires to choose from. Test all the wires. When testing the white wires push hard and make sure the light tester is making contact with the wire. I only had the tach jump one time for me.
This worked for me a couple of years ago. If any problems or questions, pm, me. Bob.
That thread helped me find it too.
Yes, there are a few white wires in that bundle. I found the correct one on the second try.
I think the most tedious part of the whole job was just unwrapping that bundle of wires enough to separate the wires (and isolate the correct one) . Some nasty sticky tape they used for that.
Glad you found the correct wire!. For those that are contemplating, doing a shift light and when trying to find the proper wires. I suggest, using the sharp test probe instead of peeling back any insulation from the wires.
I have spent two days getting my gauges and shift light wired and installed properly. On my first car they all worked. On this car there wired better and tricked out. I could not have done it with out the help of the forum and guys doing write ups with pics. Thanks to everyone that took the time to do posts.
